View Full Version : Creative Assembly Question for the devs, most grateful for any reply!
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on why the Templars out of all their peers are the only crusaders to have a charge bonus of 4 rather than 8?
I don't know personally of any historical reason why this should be the case, so is it a game balance issue? if so in what sense?
I'm thinking of modding their charge up to 8 myself, and am curious if it might have implications that may not have occured to me.
Thanks in advance for any insight that anyone is able to offer,
Regards!

i agree Wart, it is very peculiar?!
maybe the Templar Knights are pie-packers or their mounts mules?
i've already edited them to be the same as the others tho! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Templars are armed with swords where as the others are armed with lancers. I have no idea about historical facts, but that's the game reason. Feel free to fiddle the value, shouldn't cause any problems. Note that adding and removing whole rows WILL affect your current campaign, your save games may not work anymore.
the main templar seal had a horse with two knights on it signifying their oath of poverty...
maybe they ride two on one horse? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Wont this modification effect online multiplayer game compatability?

Thanks for the answer mate! Wouldnt dare add/remove rows- never play with what you don't understand! Was just gonna tweek a number, http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
Sorry I really appreciate your answer and don't wish to sound like im doubting you but, ive just checked the crusader_units file and all the orders seem to have swords. Am i missing something very basic? (highly likely as i have the technical apptitude of an ant, & much credit to you guys for making a game that even someone like me can understand enough to do SOME modding)
If there is a stat that defnes them as having a lance will changing it from sword to lance automatically give them the extra +4 to charge, or is just gonna be easier in the long run to change the charge number?
Once again any help you can give is greatly appreciated! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Yes, but it seems like any mod to the crusader files or campaign startpos files has this effect. A little annoying but i can see why its the case!
I have to swap my files around for MP anyway as i've already modded the files to allow all catholics to crusade in my SP games. Guess it just comes down to whether one can be bothered with it or not.

These guys were depicted with a sword for a bit of visual variety. I tried to make the unit stats reflect the visual depiction of the unit, so if you see a cavalry unit with a long lance, you know it's going to have a harder charge than one that just has a sword.
If it was a unit you could build, then the payoff would be that they cost less, and after the initial impact fight just as well.

Many thanks for the reply, really appreciate it! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Ok at least i havent missed some great historical truth, or major game balance issue! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
But if you don't mind me asking, why did you choose to have this visual variation with the Templars, who historically were possibly the most feared of all the crusading orders, rather than say the Hospitallar?
Hope i'm not coming across as too whiney, the game overall is really great, this is just one tiny detail that niggles at my sense of history! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

The artists chose.
*throws hands up in despair*
Tsk, artists, what do they know about history! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Ok, thanks for for taking the time to indulge my geekish curiosity Longjohn!
Any chance that this will be fixed in the patch then? I guess you have a load of game issues that are far more pressing, but it really is a bit historically inaccurate.
Once again, Many Thanks http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I have to say that this is the biggest load of bs I've ever heard. Why are artists making such decisions?? Perhaps the cleaner designed the interface?
