Hey the heck happened to the Longbows? In SP I cant seem to be able to build Longbows with the English? I mean I have the bowyers guild and still cant get em. Anyone have a clue what I'm doing wrong?

there's a lot of problems with being able to build certain things if you loaded a saved game from 1.0 version.

i can't build swiss pikemen or armored pikemen (in switzerland)...from what i understand to correct this you need to start a new campaign with the new patch installed.

in a related note...when fighting big computer armies always start with as much spear/pike as you can...they comp will pick all his heavy cav in his first 16 units

yea thats what I did when I got the patch was start a new campaign because stupid me thought things were gonna be fixed. So the game I'm playing now is a new campaign also I reinstalled MTW and the patch in hopes that maybe my mod were screwing it up but still cant build my longbows and its pissing me off.

i'm starting to get a feeling that units in the campaign might be limited to thier "correct" time period

not going to state my opinion on this cuz there's enough whining on this board already...i wonder if this is true

well I've seen suspicions on this time period thing in a number of places, (but it seems rather silly given the fact that there are also steep tech requirements for some units).

If their gonna limit units being produced to certain periods, then whats the point of all the silly teching up? also, this wasn't mentioned in the features, or fixes, I don't think.

I wonder if this was intentional.

you know...this might provide some valuable insight as to why the AI never built good units.

haha people were looking for some iron man rules i think we found a good one ;p

I just started several different new campaigns in all three periods, several as England and several as France, and all of the appropriate units were available. Longbowmen, chivalric units, etc. No problems for me.

I just installed the patch over my existing MTW installation. Deleted all my saved games first.

Yep I'm a retard. They have now tied units to time periods so after 1200 AD I can build longbows and crossbows. My bad didnt mean to bitch http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Yes, units are now tied to their designated time period, a very welcome addition in my opinion.

This will help the AI not get too far behind in the tech tree and certainly make the game more challenging.

at first i didn't like it, but now i think i do. if nothing else it lets you learn to use units you normally wouldn't.

Precisely. A very good thing, gives a challenge to have a standing low tech army and try to upgrade it slowley with better units. Of course if you don't like it, mod late to start in 1091.

Yes... I too thought it was a bug of some sort.

But I love the aspect that you can't really outpace the AI too much, lovely! Now I won't steamroll my enemies as if they were not there.

ya i have to admit it' despite playing as england in my new campaigne and not getting longbows and billmen earlier, it makes the game much more interesting and challenging. makes me look forward to 1205 - I pity the french!

Even the french pity the french http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

I wonder how this will effect the AI balance. Im guessing the almos may do even better now.
