View Full Version : Christianity - why bother?

I'm talking about the game, btw, not trying to annoy any devout readers. I wonder if anyone would like to comment on whether it's really worth converting during a campaign. I have never done so, although I have conquered provinces with churches in them so I know the AI is willing to do so. But if I want the guns (and to be honest I don't want them very much) I am content to wait until the Dutch arrive, whereas I can't see, personally, why having churches and priests would outweigh the disadvantage of not being able to have Warrior Monks - and I like Warrior Monks: they get killed a bit easily, but they're kind of cool imo.
Any thoughts? And sorry if this has all been discussed at length before - I'm new to the forum and doing archive searches rarely brings up the right stuff I find.

The best reason to become christian is to give yourself a longer, somewhat more difficult campaign. It's just another way to play. You don't need guns to win but guns ARE fun to use. And the churches do generate income.

what's cool about MI and WE is that if you are buddhist and you take over christian lands... you can burn the churches ... that's what i do....

I don't like christianity much as supposedly you lose honour when fighting warrior monks. I just sell any churches I come across.

Oh, and does anyone know if there is a way to cancel christianity once you have it?

Nelson seems to sum it up pretty well.. the only time I play Christian Daimyo is when I feel like playing funny. heh. It adds a vague interest to the campaign to deal with imposing a new religion on your people all the while conquering the lands. I rarely find much use for negotiating with other Christian Daimyo though.. and even though I've tried building cathedrals I never have the option to build a Father Visitor.. did they remove him from the game last minute or am I doing something wrong?

Zone: To cancel your Christian contract all you have to do is build a Buddhist temple somewhere. Likewise, you can become Christian again by building a Church. I think you can even burn it down without any consequences. Weird, huh?

Thanks for the thoughts. I'll probably try it out sometime, as you say, to give the game a bit of variety - and all that burning and destruction sounds like fun too!

Guns earlier, an easy way to promote revolts in other provinces, ie convert the subjects of a christian daimyo, send in the shinobi and let rip.

Build a cathedral and you rake in the cash like there's no tomorrow.

Klen, the Father Visitor was indeed removed from the game before it was published. (if he was implemented in the first place)

You can send priests to buddist daimyos provinces and start religious upprisings when playing as a christian. And the priests wont be caught by "security forces", they have to be killed with ninjas.
