which do u prefer out of these units and why?

Halberdiers are probably best in defence, but billmen in attack and as allrounders. I tend to use billmen because they are tactically much more useful.

Billmen are toned down JHI and are very effective when charging and against cavalry.

Billmen along side my Longbow they are unbeatable in my wars against France. I have gone off Halbadiers now it's Bilmen all the way
Militia Sergeants.
Not too inferior to Bills, but available early and only require low end buildings.
Just don't get them bogged down too much or they'll run away.
pillmen... these guys are so loaded up.. generally i use them as strong flank guards, keep them slightly to the side and rear, and they can quite easily stave off any flanking attempt

Billmen.
I keep them in second rank on the flanks to attack engaged enemy from the rear and fend off flanking attacks by cav.
Its satisfying to watch the enemy line fold when both flanks are attacked.
Billmen, but I settle for halbediers if I'm not playing english.

billmen are better though i dont like their morale.
i am a freak, i do not like the billmen at all, i would much rather have halbrids.
Halberds. Billmen don't hold up as well in a protracted melee.
Halberds have armor piercing weapons, bonus against cavalry, and they're a plate-mailed infantry unit, so they have a high survivability.

Depends on what I need them to do? Halberds really shine when defending a bridge or other terrain bottle neck where speed of movement is not required because they are as slow as molasses. Billmen are great for protecting flanks of other infantry units and heavy defensive cav units from enemy cav and maa attacks. They are quicker than Halberds, and are a better all round unit.

Seriously though, I prefer Billmen if I have to move them, but Halberdiers if they need to stand still and defend something important.
I once had 3 Halberdier and 1 Swiss Halberdier hold a bridge against an English Crusade force of about 2000 troops including Order Foot Soldiers, Templars and Chiv knights. I was expecting to only make the English bleed for the province, but ended up winning easily.

I like halberdiers cause they`re very good defence allrounder. They are not just good against cav but also inf and resistant against ranged. ok, they`re slow but when they come to battle they`re like tanks on two feet.
I haven`d tried out billmen enough to say who`s better. I found them good but not as tough.
In my latest battle against the byz emp, two units of halberdiers in the right flank defeated 80 katas and about 200 chiv-sgts.

Since Billmen are English-only, playing as English, I would build them in the province where they get +1 Valor. So the question should be:
"What do you like better, English Halberds or English Billmen w/+1 Valor."

Billmen are like swiss halberdier, only reliable for attack or protecting flanks. With right general (say at least the one that gives either morale or valour2 bonus) regular halberds make a great center piece. But when bills and swiss come across halberds, they crack open heavily armored halberds.
Billmen Very slow but very powerful.
Tuff choice for me though so I usually end up having 2 bills and 2 hals in each army, whenever possible. They make a good combo. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Sinan Billmen are as fast as most infantry, they are faster than Halbardiers but slower than Kerns and Nizaris.
But true they make a good combo, Halbards take the enemy head on and the Billmen kill them from the flanks.

I thought to make my own topic but this one should suit it.
I got reapearance of Turks in Pereyaslavl with 4 stacks of troops ( Very nice troops ) Bad luck turks... I had my best general and veteran troops in that province (http://harkrank.oblivion.nu/members/batko/TurkReap.jpg) . But its not the point of this topic(reply). I had some halberdies going berserk on everything
Before this battle I never considered Halb as someone to rely on or to count with. But here they in spite on order to hold the line and position went berserk on everything and no one could stop them even being hit in the flanks on the rear
First I thought ( many turks to fight against)- Idiots let this be your own death I wouldn't send anyone to support you guys bye bye see you in hell.
