I dont think all the factions can build the normal Pikemen, maybe thats the case for you?

Anyway, I noticed something highly annoying.

I couldnt get the Swiss Pikemen when playing a Custom Game.. (I tried all Eras on Italian and German factions shame on me for not trying others) The only ones I was able to choose was the Swiss Halberdier.

Normal pike can be built if you have a County Militia building. I think they are Late period only as well. Forget whether that means a Fortress or Citadel in order to build the "County" building.

Some factions never get get them at all.

Fortress I think. I never seem to get late enough in the game to build a large number of pike troops, I am curious how effective they are. Are they the spearmen equivalent of Halbrediers?

As I said, the Swiss versions are confined to Switzerland, normal Pikemen can be trained where ever you have a County Militia (Fortresslevel) and you are either Russian or Catholic. Byz and Muslims don't get them.

Since Swiss Pikemen and their Armoured counterpart are both Late units nobody can get them as the Swiss are independant in the Late period.
The Swiss Halbardiers are High so the HRE can get them as Switzerland is part of the HRE in High.
