View Full Version : Creative Assembly MTW Tech Problem: No Battle Graphics

Note to Moderator: I tried to post on the tech forum, but apparently this is the only place I can post at present (please let me know if it is inappropriate to post tech questions, and point me to where I should go to ask such questions).

Here are my specs:

Sony Vaio (a laptop, which may explain the graphics problem, but I hope it's fixable)
Windows XP Professional
PIII, 1. Ghz
260 MB memory
DX 9.0
Intel 82815 Graphics Controller (approx total mem 32 meg)
current display mode 1024 x 768 24 bit (60hz)
Notebook LCD

As noted above, battle mode shows no graphics detail, merely white blocks on a grey background. I am a big fan of STW, and had no problem with that playing that game on my laptop. I saw something about this sort of problem on the activision web site, but the instructions were unhelpful. If anyone can help me (as I am dying to start playing MTW before school starts up again) I will be very much obliged.

Welcome to the Entrance Hall J.D'Mace. I just wish it was under better circumstances. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif BTW, it is okay to post here as it is your only option.

Laptops are not supported and it seems to be hit or miss as to whether MTW will run on one. Your problem sounded familiar but I could not find anything searching the Apothecary forum. Oddly, I found the opposite problem with laptops - people could battle but the campaign map was screwy. Here is the link if it helps: Battles fine, Campaign not (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=2;t=668;hl=graphics+and+battle)

This just in...I found this little tidbit which might help. Good luck and let's hope it works: Intel 82815 (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=2;t=622;hl=blocks) It is not exactly what you have but it is most likely in the same family.

i have a dell 1ghz laptop with 256mb, xp pro and a geforce 2 32 mb vid card and have no problem with mtw so i suspect the issue is with your intel graphics.

it is probably shared graphics memory which means other parts of the computer get to use that 32 meb as well. so in actual fact you may have much less mb to play the game than you think and that is why you are getting the problem.

or it could be a driver issue.

or it could be the crappy direct x 9 that lots of people are complaining about i would be going back to 8.1 if i were you as 9.0 is really only going to benefit the latest and greatest vid cards.

Not all of the Intel chipsets were supported for Medieval (the i740 for one is not), and we're still testing DX9. Customer support is not my area, but I have passed this on to the Medieval guys...

It should work. I had this exact problem when I first got the game, but I solved it by downloading the updated driver.

Good luck to ya http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
