I'm aware that there's been debate over important issues such as whether the original game is better than the updated version, but I want to mention something I find really annoying about the new version. In the original game, you could place the units in your armies in a particular order (in terms of their icons at the bottom of the screen) - e.g. I like to have cavalry units first in that line-up, then the elite infantry, then the yaris and then the archers. This was done simply by picking up each unit and popping it back on the same army, which put it at the head of the line, and repeating that until satisfied. This might seem fussy, but it made it easy to see at a glance the strengths and weaknesses of an army, and to compare different armies with each other.
Now in WE this doesn't work: the units line up in what seems to be any old order, and picking them out and putting them back just returns them to the same spot.
Am I the only control freak who is disappointed by this? Might the official patch eventually restore the situation?

I do find it harder to analyse the army but I manage http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif It's not that much extra effort although (if anyone out there's 'listning') it would be nice to have that option back again!

I have noticed this too, but strangely only in the Mongol Invasion campaign. In Sengoku Jidai campaigns, I still seem to be able to sort the unit panel just like in STW. I think this ability to sort is quite important, e.g. when none of your units in an army have experienced generals, surely you'd rather have a samurai archer as general rather than a yari ashigaru. You can make the samurai archer general by simply moving him to the front.

Yep, it is not, I admit, a life or death issue, but thank you both for agreeing with me. Interesting that you can sort in the Sengoku Jidai campaign - I'm pretty sure that I cannot. Nice to know I'm not the only one who likes things nice and organised!

Sorry. I have made a mistake. Actually, I can't sort in Sengoku Jidai campaigns. I was only able to sort when there is more than 1 general in the army, e.g. two Rank 1 generals.

Another thing I noticed is that in the Mongol Invasion campaign, if there are no experienced generals in the army, you will be allocated a Mongol unit as the general, not any Korean unit.

yes it is annoying not to be able to 'sort' the army,

interestingly the AI does not seem limited to a mongol general, AI horde will often have koreans as Taisho's
My all time favourite was the Thunder Bomber general - i sent a unit of ashi his way - he attacked and blew himself to pieces!
:lol

i miss being able to sort my armies for ease of reference...
