Past monday i was playing 2vs2 with Paolai vs MKZnake and MKCicero on Campaign Milan in a CWB match, u know, a "serious" (was really funny) game.

Just when we were on the most important moment (i was starting to attack on the left while Paolai was supporting my right flank) i tried to choose one group with hot keys (Ctrl + "number") and... Argh, black screen, back to windows. Then have to back to MTW asap, black screen again and then finally back to the game. It sound very very funny now, but u know, in that moment i did not laugh too much ( http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif , well now yes, hehe). Luckily i could arrive at time and the game was really funny (Hiya Znake and Cicero http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif ).

So, my question is, are there any possibility to disable that key from the keyboard when u want??

Sorry, my pc's knowledge is really poor (as my general knowledge...)

Ese Ale, cunhaooooooooooooooooo http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

There is one way to de-activate the Windows key for ever. Some people never uses it (I almost never), so they find it's better to completely disable the key. You will need to modify the Windows registry, so be careful doing it, you can mess your Windows if you play with it improperly. However, following these steps you won't risk anything, and it's easier than it seems:

1. Start regedit.exe to access the Windows Registry.

2. Navigate the left tree until you reach the following key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]

3. When you select that key in the left tree, you will see the keys associated to it in the right panel. Look for a key named "Scancode Map". If it doesn't exist, create it using the right mouse button (Value Name: Scancode Map, Data type: REG_VALUE or Binary value).

4. Modify its value (double clicking on it) to the following (these are all zeroes):
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 5B E0 00 00 5C E0 00 00 00 00

5. Restart your system (in 2000/XP, it would be only needed a logout/re-login)

If you want to restore the Windows key functionality, just delete the "Scancode Map" key (be sure to delete ONLY that key) and restart/re-login.

For some players, it could also be needed to disable the "contextual menu key" located near the right control key, but I haven't searched the values for that key. If anybody really needs it, just ask and I'll try to find the correct values.

Of course, there are also little programs that do the same function, but I has always used this method as I really hate that key, and this workaround completely disables it for all Windows programs, using no resources from the computer.

Of course, Ale, you can ask me on-line whenever you want (and invite me to a beer too http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif)

I pressed it at least a thousand times, well 500...

usually when forcing a ranged unit to a melee, nowadays I sense when I press it and just keep it down and press another key, then releasingthe windows key, works, but it's still annoying.

had it about 3 times throwing me to desktop...

Well, I've made a little set of configuration files that enable/disable any of the Windows/Contextual Menu keys individually by simple double clicking in the option desired. They are not programs, only Registry configuration files, so they doesn't eat up resources from your computer, and only need a restart to make effect.

That way, they allow to disable the left Windows key (the most problematic for right-handed players) while maintaining the left keys for normal use on Windows. I would like to share these files by putting them under the downloads section of the .org, if possible. These have been tested in Windows 2000/XP for now.

The problem is: do I need to make any special action for this to be possible or is it enough to put them in the upload section of the .org? Also, this post could be moved by a moderator to the Apothecary if this belongs to there, and make cross-posts where appropiate. I have just posted here as a follow-up of the topic.

Please, could any kind moderator tell me what's the best way to share it here in the .org, if possible? Thanks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
