View Full Version : Port Invasions
I know it's possible but how do I go about doing it?
I tried building an army in my province with a port... then sent a shinobi to the enemy province with a port... and when I dragged my army to the enemy province, nothing happened. What am I missing?

it looks like you did it correctly, according to your post.
maybe you overlooked something and failed to mention it. try again.

Did you drag your army into the enemy port province in the same season as your shinobi?
I think your shinobi has to be there one season before your army can follow. If that's not it,I can't explain why it's not working either.

Doesn't your shinobi/emissary/ninja have to be there 1 turn prior to invading?
"YES" to answer ur question http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

CORRECT AND HE HAS TO SURVIVE ALSO
Call me stupid but I never realised you could do that and thought that it was a pity you couldn't http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Port invasions are for wimps. A highly dishonourable tactic. :-)
why are port invasions dishonourable?
Takeda uses them on me all the time,
damn him!
i have to keep garrisons around my ports!!!
and Emissaries are far better for scouting ports, they don't get killed by enemy shinobi or watchtowers, and i loooove using them to 'bait' enemy ninja - hop into an enemy port, next turn hop home and bingo! your security forces caught an enemy ninja!
another 100 koku down the drain for the AI!
If the AI uses port invasions then so can I!

I've never had a port invasion against me so I assumed the AI did not use them.
Are port invasions valid from a historical viewpoint? I have no knowledge of the period myself.
The AI inded does port invations once in a while.
Historically, it is quite possible since the Japanese have war galleys.

It was certainly a possibility, but I don't think any port invasions of significant size happened during the Sengoku Jidai. Presumably, the lack of decent siege artillery on the boats would mean that invasion forces would be landing right into the mouths of the enemy and be shoved back to the sea.
However, that doesn't mean they can't be done.

Hi all,
i've just begun reading George Sansom's 'A History of Japan 1334-1615'. i've only got to the first 50 years or so, but the use of naval invasions, while not exactly common, was certainly in use. The Imperial Southern court (in opposition against the Ashikaga shogunate) had its support mainly in Kyushu and the far north and used ships for communications and transporting troops. There were at least two major naval invasions of Kawachi during this period.
I haven't got to the SJ part yet and will post once i've read through the whole book, but my impression is that it was a perfectly valid strategy and used (especially by those who had good relations with the pirates of the inland sea).
In the game, I once had Shimazu conduct PIs every season for two years straight into Owari (i'm not sure why, he got slaughtered every time http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif ).
