A few months ago there were about 2 or 3 i the making. One even had screens of the troops he modded for Gondor. Unfortunatly though, we haven't seen an update in a good while. Check the Dungeon for addditional info...
Next time, if you want to post any thread about a mod, you should post it in the Dungeon.
Other than that, welcome to the Guild

I thought that these mods were dropped due to the ammount of work needed and the engine's inability to do magic and large units http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif Only some maps were planned (Alrowan's for example, which are quite OK)
Am I missing something http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I asked about this in the dungeon some days ago. And it seem the problem is that the units doesnt work in campaignmode. A lot of people asked him to realease the units though for custom battles. WEll have to see about that. Also the expansion is supposed to make theese things easier and there may be hope of at least one of theese mods beeing realeased.

The expansion will make ALL mods more difficult - not easier - in respect of existing software/utilities providing by The Orgs people.
This fact was confirmed by ECS several months ago.
The 2/3 LoTR mods died a death principally because the required units were not available in order to provide correct/feasible LoTR units on the battlefield - even though a LoTR campaign map was successfully completed by PP/Whitey.

That is all good, as long you don't make Helm's Deep battle with elves its fine by me... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I wanna see how those guys are gonna make the third movie, i bet elves will be in all the battles...
This is a bit off topic but how in the hell did the elves got to Helm's Deep so fast (in the movie)... i mean, the people of rohan almost didn't, but they got there pretty quick. And where did they come from? Rivendell? Lórien? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
I guess they thought we were to entertained with the popcorns and special effects...hehehe http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

a LOTR mod would be good. But a LOTR expension pack by Creative Assembly would be perfect http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I think the LOTR battles would suit Total War setting perfectly because they are all large battles especially Helm's Deep. Well, Liquid Entertainment (they guys that brought us Battle Realms) got the contract, so we'll just have to see what they can come out with. But i doubt there would be any large scale battles.
yea battlerealms is pretty crap.

Hi Portugese Rebel,
The movie didnt really follow the actual story as written in the books by JRR Tolkkien. According to the actual story, there were no reinforcements from the elves. The only elf present was Legolas. The reinforcements that came were led by Gandalf and another Rohirim named Erkenbrand. Eomer was already at Helm's Deep when the Uruk-Hai arrived. Just to help you clarify a little http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif But to hell with the story. The movie did look better with the elves in them. They're super cool. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I think it's obvious that porto understands the story just fine. As for to hell with the story, that attitude was depressingly evident in the very mediocre movie.

The movie is great fun, but some parts are quite dubious... for example, they edited off all the travel in the old forest were the hobbits Merry and Pippin got their elvish blades. One of those blades is used (in the book) to kill the captain of the Nazgul.
They are gonna make him die with a normal blade now? Or perhaps make him slug it out with Gandalf (i would like to see this, since i was rooting for it when i read the book).
I have yet to see a Lotr themed RTS. Warcraft 3 comes close to this... I think it would be really cool. There could be several factions: Men, Elves, Orcs of Mordor, Dwarves...
But sothing like battle realms http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif im not sure if it is suitable for this. I would like to have huge battles, not a half a dozen units, no mather how cool they are...

Yes, the elf in charge of the reinforcements was Haldir of Lorien, the sentry who stopped them before, but truly i would like it better if they werent there. It would follow the story better. My greatest hope for the third movie is that they will put the Orcs slinging the giant balls of decapitated heads from the Men of Gondor slaughtered at the Fords. That would be soooooooo cool

yup, the movie was quite fun. Many parts were ommitted from the book and some other parts which didnt exist in the original story were added into the movie. Some changes were quite nice while some were totally unnecessary.
One nice additions was the scene where the walls exploded at helm's deep coz, in the book it was only vaguely described as the devilry of Saruman. The order of the presentation of events was also cool switching to & from events at Rohan to that of Frodo/Sam/Smeagol. The presence of the elves at Helm's Deep was quite nice to me, although i would really like to see the humans defend themselves.
But there are some additions that i didnt like in the movie. One was Aragorn without Anduril. The sword was supposed to be re-forge b4 the start of the journey. I think they planning a grand finale entrance for the sword. Sounds fishy. The potrayal of Faramir was also disgusting. I dont remember reading about Faramir tempted to use the ring. Faramir had thought that Frodo was carrying Isildur's Bane. But most of all, i hate all those Arwen moments. I mean why is she appearing so often in the each episode??? She definitely wasnt the one who took Frodo to Rivendell in the first place, and also those dream sequences with Aragorn are total crap.
Anyway, according to Liquid Entertainment, the game will be released sometime in early 2004. I still wished, Creative Assembly had been offered the contract instead of Liquid. Most of LOTR battles are all large scaled and should resemble that of TotalWar games rather than battle realms, c&C type of strategy games.
anyway.. just my 2 cents http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif cheers

I think this will most surelly be in it... unless those american bible pushers start making too much noise due to the violence of it (go figure... medieval style war without violence)...
I've even been to a site of christian reviews where they said that the movie was too violent and did not pay tribute to the original story, wich was supposed to be non-violent
The way they find the book non violent is beyhond my comprehension http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
I mean, there is all that blood and gore in the book (perhaps more so that in the movie) and they grade it non-violent. Well, even so, LoTR ain't more violent than the bible itself...
Anyway i know now that, apparently, those elves came from Lórien. So why is all that talk between Galadriel and Elrond? It seems she is trying to convince him to act and she finally succeds and he sends that elven company.
The elves come from Rivendell, as Haldir says: Elrond of Rivendell sends his regards (or something like that)

A fantasy based Mod is in the works Lord Shand 994 already has a 40 fantasy unit beta based on the Drenai series (check the Dungeon thread Fictional unit Mod) and he is currently working with a Lord Kaboomis on a fantasy mod called Midkemia. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Thanks for the info, but this makes things even worse since part of the fellowship had to cross half of middle-earth to get to rohan, yet the elves got there in a blink of an eye??
You think they have some sort of TGV? if so why didn't they let the fellowship use it? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
They just had to have elves there didn't they? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
Im not bashing the movie but in some occasions, to make the movie more colourfull they tossed the story integrity.

Peter Jackson refused to read the books before directing the movie... that kind of says it all really. He turns Gimli from a taciturn dwarf into a freaking oompa loompa for chrissakes and since when is Legolas a ninja?

Peter Jackson, what a moron, at least he could have said he did it... like the others do...
And yes, gimli is like a circus dwarf in the movie, wich is quite wrong... Remember the battle when he asks aragorn to toss him... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
