I am making a Persian wars mod at the moment BUT it is mostly a classical mod starting at about 400BC till ~100AD.

I am using the existing map but I would like some help re building it or making a new but one that will feature most of Europe and middle east.

If you have started with troy we might be able to join in one that starts in ~1000BC till ~100AD I still have a number of empty slots in my units file that can accommodate the dark age Hellenic units though making chariots will be a tough.
I will release the mod in V.1.0 probably this weekend so you and every body else can have a look see http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Though a to join them a redistribution of fractions will be needed since Lidians are needed along with other eastern factions that in my case are under Persians.

Don't worry about the units ... I can help a lot with making them. My problem is the type of units that will be in the game.

There is little or no info on the units and how they fought. From Homer we get the impression of a standard Hoplite but we know that though the Hoplite existed they fought in open combat ... charging to the enemy. Each had two to three javelins and a standard sword ...

The other problem is ... what are the Trojans??? I am almost sure they were not of Hellenic origin ...
Skythans??? but they seem match more advanced than the classical age Skythans ...

Komminos,

well im sorta going into the mod blind. Because as you
stated the units that the Trojans would have had are not really talked about. Yes the spartans had a unit that
resembled the hoplite.i haven't heard anything about the
use of a phalanx formation. So what im doing is putting
together some units that are fictional from my mind.
I was thinking about meshing roman units with greek and
since troy was somewhere around constantinople and nicea
on the opposite shore of of the agean sea to greece i could
add some turkish influence. but since troy has never had
concrete evidence of even existing , my fictional units
should be satisfactory.
I have started on some stats for archers that remeble
ottoman infantry.I was also thinking of making a unit
that resembled the roman gladiator type that made use
of a small sheild and short sword as a light infantry for
the trojans.i think the trojans should also have some sort
of javalin infantry.

If you or any one else reading this thread has any
ideas or want for a specific unit type please let Either
myself or komminos know.
--- oh yeah i need to know if theres a way that i could
post the units i finish in this forum instead of using the dl section of the org.because i would like to release
units for testing as thing progress.

Thanx Komminos

Greg

Never mind about that GreasePaintMonkeyBrains … BUT … Lets look at some things first …

1) We have no clue on what the Trojans were … there are two thing that might hold true:

a. Some sort of advanced race in the area of Black sea. This might be true since other prehistoric tale refer to the nations around the south east of the sea like Jason’s voyage. This makes them of Armenian or Skythic origin with the first to more realistic. Problem … The walls of Troy were built by Poseidon ??? And They seam to have the same language and customs with other Hellenic races ???

b. They were some sort of colony of an advanced nation of the East (Sumerians, Assyrians, … ) This might be true due to the good relation they had with the surrounding area, ie same culture, common language etc. Problem … The walls of Troy were built by Poseidon ?????

c. To be of Hellenic origin. At the beginning of the dark age the Hellenic races descended from the North with the first to be the Ionians and the last (and more destructive) the Dorieans. Now one race might just turned and descended in to Asia Minor (West coast of Turkey). This gives as a good reason for the good diplomatic relation they had with the rest of the Hellenic races, there customs and language. But Homer says that “Beware of the Ahaians even if they bring presents”. This gives us an indication that they vied them as of different race. So the Trojans might be either of Ionian or of older Hellenic Races …

2) The “Ahaians” are NOT Spartans. Leader in the expedition was the Mycenaean King and though Peloponnesian they are not Spartan The Expeditionary force was composed by the cities that had power and interest for controlling the straits of Bosporus. So if the Dorieans were in the expeditionary force they should be refereed as such not Spartans. The city of Sparta becomes prominent in a later age.

3) Army Composition for the Ahaians would be Dark age Hoplite armed with two to three javelins and a sword. Usually the javelins were used during a charge and crush was with either the third spear or with the sword. Here they might be two classes, heavily armored with body armor and light with just the “Aspis” shield. Chariots with either javeliners or archers and light slingers and archers. The Trojans should have the almost the same composition but probably with lighter shields and armor to reflect there Eastern allays but with better archers.

4) The map should be no more than the area around Bosporus. Not more that 9 territories. Practically you need the beachhead with a CASTLE3 the city with a CASTLE5 and some surrounding neutral area to pillage. The mod should run for 10 years (moves) and not building would be possible for either side. Both sides should start with a really heavy force.

5) I will incorporate the two Dark age units in my mod just for the test as mercenary units for the Hellenic league. They should be tested against the Lighter Persian units, Germanic, Celtic, and Skythic units

6) One last thing Homer refers to pike being used to during the landing phase to repel the Trojans so I would guess this is a weapon of choice for sea battles and it should not be included.

Finally these are my foughts and what I remember from school days so I might be wrong in some things…

Komninos,
cheers for the input. you know alot more
than i do about this time period. i argee that the
map should only be about 9 provinces.10 years with a
large military capability would make for a great short
campaign.I already had planned on making it a point that
the trojans would have mastery with archers.charriots
and lite soldiers with javs would be good too.im going out of town for the weekend so i wont be back until monday.

keep in mind that the armor value for Trojan soldiers should be lower than normal due to their armor being extra sensitive
