View Full Version : Things I was wrong about
I feared that battlefield ninja, kensai and thunder bombers would mess up the game. They haven't. While their effect is generally minimal trying to use them well on occasion is fun so as to stay amused and not become bored. I use them like I use monks. 1 or 2 units per campaign tops. Having disparaged these units before they appeared, I am now glad they are there. CA was right. I was mistaken.
I still wish the crossbowmen had ordinary bows, though. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
Nelson,
You can't change the graphics, but you could give the xbows the characteristics of regular bows in the Projectiles.txt file. I checked in custom battle, and the xbows will fire through frindly units despite CA/DT saying they would not. You could also give the Korean skirmishers the characteristics of archers if you wanted to. I did successfully make javelins go 2x farther, but I haven't tried to increase their range to equal archers.

Ouch, did those Koreans still have the same effectiveness, I'd not want to meet them if they did. Got Javelin rushed a few nights ago, absolutely slaughted me.

Catiline,
No. I lowered the power, but you can make the javelin effectiveness [accuracy and power] the same as archers, and thus play the game as though the Koreans skirmishers were archers. Give them 28 ammo in the Troopstats file. I just tried javelins with the range of archers, and it does work.

interesting graphics that brings up though...cool nonetheless
Well, it's a little trickier than I thought. If you make the javelins range 5000, then the speed has to be 250 or they can't reach the target at max range. That makes them throw in a flatter trajectory than archers. So, it's not exactly the same. Archers have a speed of 150, and can reach a target at 5000.

Nelson:
*bows deeply* It shows great honor to admit your errors publicly. Most of us had doubts about those "special" new units, but CA did them justice. Interesting units, but not the game-breakers we feared. I ignore the x-bows, myself.
As for the rest of this thread, it's beginning to sound like the editing forum! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Let me offer Nelson-san the credit he is due for the same.
*wonders if he should start a "Things I was right about" thread*

Thanks, guys. *I bow in return*
Anssi, my wife of almost 20 years has long since purged me of the habit of keeping track of when I am right!

Its that rare huh?
Yagyu,
I'm sure it's much less a case of rarity than of maintaining domestic bliss. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif I can sympathize with Nelson entirely.
In my 12 years of marriage, I've learned that discretion is by far the better part of valor. Even if I know I'm right, I'll keep my mouth shut in many cases because they aren't significant enough issues to force it.
