I've just finished Byzantium: The decline and fall by Lord Norwich and in a complete change of pace am now reading Round Ireland with a fridge by Tony Hawks (not the skateboard guy&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. The author was bet £100 that he couldn't hitch-hike round Ireland, in a month, with a fridge. The book is very, very funny http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Perrys Chemical Engineers Handbook ,the bible of plant design. Not exactly light reading here Last book I read was The Two Towers ( I'm following the films) and a Terry Pratchett book ( my favourite author by a light year).

The books you mention both sound interesting, Byzantium and weird humour is up my street.

I can't recommend Harry Potter highly enough. I'm over 50 years old, and I've read the first four books several times. I have read each book in paper form once. I have them on CD, so I can listen to them in that form when I want at work. I can't wait for the fifth.

I like reading detective novels. Janet Evanovich is excellent, Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiaasen.

I just finished reading David McCullough's biography of John Adams. Very interesting. Adams was the genius behind the American Revolution. He doesn't get enough credit for his contributions.

I am now reading Seabiscuit which is about a horse that ran in the 1930s. It is being made into a movie with Toby McGuire (who was in Spider-Man). The PBS stations in the US have been showing an hour-long documentary on Seabisuit in which they have included real footage of some of the races huge races that Seabiscuit ran. I would highly recommend the book to everyone -- just so they could read the chapter describing what jockeys go through. It's a miracle there aren't more people killed at racetracks.

I have other books lined up: HP5, of course. December 6 by Martin Cruz Smith, a biography of Benjamin Franklin, and The DaVinci Code.

I tried to read the latest Dune book, but I was very disappointed. I had read all the Dune books (Dune through Chapterhouse Dune). I had also read the three prequel books and thought they were OK. They should have left well-enough alone after that or moved on from Chapterhouse.

Stalingrad by Antony Beevor, good choise^^
You may also want to pick up the work from Sebastian Haffner, I highly recommend 'From Bischmark to Hitler'
Divine comedy is interesting because of it's historical value, and I use some quotes from it in my rogue spear lobby, abandon all hope you that enters this place.
It is a hard read though, because of it's poetic nature.
Can't say I enjoyed it much.
By the way, does anyone has a good book to recommend about the Israel/Palastinian conflict? It is al over the news every day, but I have to admit that I know very little about it.

Im currently reading Vagabond by Berbard cornwell.

The second book in his 'Grail Quest'series.

The books are set during the 100 years war between France and England, and have some good historic stuff in.

A very good read.

Books-wise - Recently read Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan

Infinity plus reviews say... I predict Altered Carbon will be hoovering up rewards this year like a coke addict on holiday in Columbia. This is a first novel so exciting, so addictive and so bone-crunchingly in your face that it beggars the need for such virtual reality as it occasionally employs.

Apparently his first book...damn fine. Described as a mix between hardcore cyberpunk and classic detective thriller. God alone knows what hardcore cyberpunk means, I think any book that involves a computer at any point gets that description these days.

Anyway, it's good. Nuff said http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

I'm much deeper than just puns. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif Besides, this year's punpkin crop has suffered greatly in the last couple of months. This primarily due to Baghdad Bob's total domination of the world humour scene: There are no puns in this post. There are no puns within 100 km of this post.

As for reading, I've been reading odd bits and pieces of The Lord of the Rings. I've recently (re-)read The Hobbit because my daughter started reading it for the first time. I also re-read Rendezvous with Rama recently since I heard Morgan Freeman is working on creating a movie version of the book.
