Here are a few more from a Viking campaign I started. First up is a very nice summary parchment with V&Vs gain by all generals/royals during the turn:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/gbresslr/images/MTW%20VnV.jpg
Next up is two shots of archers using fire arrows against a fort. The first is a long view and the second a close up of the arrows speeding towards the fort.

Looking good so far, thanks for posting some pics, Gregoshi Pope is playable in custom battles? cool
Btw, is the minimap on the VI strategy screenshot showing all of the playable map or is the map larger than that? I'm asking because I recall the French coast being mentioned and I can't see it on the minimap....

Brutal, the map shows part of France and is labeled Francland - I think that was the name. I did not notice if it was in-play though. I'd just gotten ships down in that area before I quit last night. I'll pay closer attention when I re-start again.

Here's a nice touch added to VI:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/gbresslr/images/MTW%20heir%20army.jpg
Note the crown on the base of the army icon. This army is led by a prince.
Comment: some times there is a crown on the base of the king's army icon and some times there isn't. I verified that it is not based on the presence of a prince in the army. It just seems to come and go.

I never noticed it before. One possible explanation (so I don't appear as a total fool) is that I did most of my MTW playing with a Voodoo3 graphics card and only last month upgraded to a new machine. There is a different look to MTW on an up-to-date graphics card. Maybe my Voodoo3 wasn't up to snuff to handle little things like the crown. Realistically, it was probably me not noticing the obvious. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

Dont worry Gregoshi, I have an NVidea chipset and I had never noticed it either lol Useful though.
One thing that i thought was funny is the the King symbol is on horseback even if it isnt a mounted unit, kind of like in the Holy Grail when they pretend to have horses by clapping coconut shells together http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

05-09-2003, 17:39
Boiling oil really cooks your guys fast. There are about 3 or 4 pours of oil in quick succession, then a break, then it starts again - far better to batter the gate from a distance On wooden forts i've noticed the guys inside throw a flaming torch of some sort although it would make more sense for the guys outside to be building a fire against the gate (maybe thats what this represents). Anyone else seen this and what is it ?
Sadly, wooden structures don't burn, they just steadily collapse like in MTW
Gregoshi
05-09-2003, 18:43
But huts and houses do catch fire and burn for a while. The smoke billows up and is affected by the wind. I've yet to run into a castle with the boiling oil. Very cools shots Marcher. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif
As for wooden forts, I've only seen guys on the outside throwing torches. BTW, aside from the wooden walls, ordering your men to attack a building to destroy it seems a very slow way to do it in VI. I've had 2 units of Vikings attack a hut for 5+ minutes and only put in 10%-20% damage at the most. The archers and their flaming arrows do the job in a few volleys against huts. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

One thing I wish building destruction would entail would be the ability to walk over the ruins of small buildings like huts and houses. That would give an incentive to MP attackers with buildings obstructing their missile walls, etc.

When you order a unit in MTW to attack a building it also throws torches. So this is not a new feature.

05-09-2003, 19:11
Gregoshi - yeah, after looking at a gate bash again I can see the torches are thrown by the guys attacking - thanks for clearing that up. The boiling oil shots were taken purely as a test in a custom battle to get the screenshots and not in a real campaign. I much prefer to batter a castle with artillery from a distance http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

every stone castle has boiling oil.
usualy u loose whatever ubit u try and take the gate with.
but after the oil has killed one of my units it doesnt seem to pour on the unit that takes it place a minute afterwards.
PS. those jomsking guys r bloody invincible.
of course when a routing peasent took one of my beloved jomskings to hell with him i executed 2000 of his friends in a fit of rage.
hmm i wonder if u get jomies in MP if so muahahahahha

The GREAT Beserkers, can anything be more Viking than this ? Fierce, Fast, Tough, VERY reliable in battle.
In this shot they hit a 100 man unit of spears from 3 sides. You can see what is left of that unit by the arrow. The General unit was just close by in case something went wrong. I have had valor 6-8 Hashishin in MTW, but it took ages to achieve that status. With Beserkers, I already have a unit at Valor 6 after 4 raids .
http://webplaza.pt.lu/shahid/images/mtwscreenshots/viorgposts/vikingsbeserkers.jpg
Hey, Sinan nice pics about the Hungarian special units http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Are they any good in the battle? I have seen that the Szekely cavs got a quite high kill counts.
The Jobbagy are what seems to be improved Murabiteen, for the Hungarians. In that battle the did ok and were used in conjunction with 1 Chiv Sarge, to hold the enemy, Jobaggy firing javelins in suppport, and finally Szelky coming in from behind.
I did not manage it that well, but the Szelky are fast enough horse archers which seem to have a decent melee as well. I like them, can't offer much more info at this stage, will do stat analysis eventually.

Great shots Sinan. That screen shot of the beserkers heading my way sent me packing out of the room. I'm afraid the few beserkers I've trained have been badly mis-managed by me. In my current campaign I'm making a second batch and will try to do better with them.

Although the Faris did pretty ok in this test, they were down to about 70% strength when the CMAA unit routed. Both the Faris & the CMAA were valor 4. I have the impression that in a frontal attack the Faris fared poorly against CMAA of equal valor.

Arab Infantry, capable attack swordsmen. Like most Muslim units in MTW, these are portrayed as desert troops. Weak in armor, and incapable of holding against most an enemy attack. they are however an addition to the game as a needed Muslim swordsman unit.

The red arrows point to the shields, in this shot it is not very clear, but like the shields for the Faris, the Arab Infantry have ornate Middle Eastern Shields. This reflects historical reality where the Arabs took great care & pride in aesthetic weaponry.

Druzna are a bit like Mamluk cav, i think. I have not tested those either. Thankfully though I got about 20 Multiplayer games in, so far. Have started a Viking campaign, but knowing my slow pace, don't expect that to be finished soon.

Tomorrow I should get time to post some more of the cool Hungarian units in action. Here's a last one for today. It's good in the sense that you can see more than you usually can in this screenie. I don't know how it got streched like that. It's prolly a bug shot. The right side of the screen I could not see at all when I took the shot, as I was facing the left side with the little forest.

I havent noticed the boiling oil or flaming arrows yet.
I think I must replay my Seljuk/ Egyptin castle siege and send my archers in.
I did notice the flaming catapult stuff, which I thought was good.

Thanks Seljuk for the screenies, the Muslim factions certainly have a nice lift in terms of new units.
Well now they have what are basically peasants with swords. They sure die like that anyway. The Faris are a medium horse archer. The Muslims get a grand total of two new units. Better than nothing I guess.
Well I hope you all enjoy these. It is good practice for me to play around with dpi, sharpening etc. When I can.
Here's on the the new Hungarian Horse Archers.

Sure thing Mith. I have a few more for Cheetah of Szeleky, Jobbagy combination. And right after I'll post some of the Viking Era. Personally I think the original campaign has improved from VI. The VI campaign is great fun, and avoids having a huge empire with loads of work to do.

Well tomorrow has come and gone, and I still have not had time to make the necessary file transfers. Will do soon, so there is more to follow.
Hey why not someone else post some of their best ones, if you need webspcae, I have, pop email and I'll host it.
Can I be thick and ask how you take a screenshot? Is it a simple case of printscreen or have the CA bods given us a option in game.

Shameless Sticky would be nicer. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Every fansite and forum has screenies sticky and/or screenies page. It would be a good idea here. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

When VI was new, this topic didn't need a sticky. Is it necessary now? That is a serious question BTW, not a nice way to say no sticky.

I think it would be nice to have sticky to refer to in order to share screenshots. I know Seljuk's fantastic editorialized pictorials always reinvigorate the world conquering bloodlust in me. Perhaps it could be a trial sticky for a month or so to see if it generates enough participation and traffic. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
Oh Oh Hmm well i could contribute, no problem.
I think it could be a good sticky. Most sites I have seen have a screenie thread or a screenie section. It's great for newbies and also for us when we want to say: here check out this game, some screenies here ----> (link to screenie thread). I thinki it's a good idea, but people must contribute also. We could also just delete all the word posts and keep only screenies.

I always save screenies from great battles. The problem is the free pic hosting site I use resizes them to save space and they are too small to appreciate when posted http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif
*note to self: find better free pic hosting*

Maybe the org can help with that. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Okay, the idea does have some merit. I'll consult with my fellow wizards. I also agree about trimming out the non-pic posts...like this one. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
