View Full Version : Creative Assembly Flexibility

Everything about Rome seems to be great, and I eagerly await its arrival. However, there is one question I want answered above all. How moddable will Rome be? Medieval is very Mod friendly and allows users to edit units and civs, as well as making completly new mods. Will the new game have this versatility? A 3d engine and dynamic map would complicate matters, wouldn't it?

Well I'm not realy sure. I heard that sprites are harder to mod that textures over a polygon unit.
and I'm sure CA will make rome as mod friendly as they can, they realy are paying attention to modders on the forums.

in terms of modding unit stats it would probably be alot easier than MTW i beleive.

05-11-2003, 02:58
That's mainly what I am concerned with, the stats. That and allocating units to different time periods and civs. CA does it's best, but sometimes I think that certain units belong elsewhere or should have different stats.

Generally 3d games are a lot easier to mod than 2d ones, and as the whole of RTW is 3d it should be much easier to mod the maps and stuff.

Do we know for sure if the battle engine will continue to use stats ? or will we have a completely new battle engine ?

Access to the unit skins would be great.

yes it would be great...great indeed http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

This is a topic quite close to my (and the rest of the programming team's) heart ;-) The Rome engine is very modable indeed - we think you will be pleasantly surprised... Unit skins and stats are only the tip of the iceberg, and total conversions should be very possible.

Thanks a lot, Jerome. It really is great to have CA members in the forums. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

It's been a while, mainly because we've all been very busy over here in the runup to E3. Now that the rush is over, you should be seeing more posts by CA devs...

Sounds really hopeful, might be worth learning to model just so I can help out more with some mods...

Same, Imagine WW1 with that engine It would workd perfectly if you scale down the squares you could get a great western front mod. Cause if building things on strat goes into battle you could put trenches and stuff

I wonder if we could do RTW Medieval mods.

If we could alter factions and units it might not be to hard to create a medieval mod.

Though that would be alot of work if we can alter architecture.

Not really only for for britain and france and then basically only adding windmills and stuff.

Yeah. I hope that if CA ever runs out of time periods for there games, they will redo the old one's with the new engine. I like Medieval, but really like the whole Japanese theme of Shogun. If Shogun was brought up to Rome TW or even Medieval TW... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

I don't know about MTW, but I definitely want to have a 3D STW http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif But I think that it could be nicely put in a China TW.
