Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm playing my first VI campaign as the scots. And my king is horrible, so i want to have a little civil war. At this point i control all of scotland, irland, and wales. So i striped my generals of titles, put them in charge of big armes, and killed of the loyal generals. Leaving my king in a unit by himself. I press end year and i have a civil war, but it didn't even tell me about it, or let me choose sides. I lost all my provinces, and all my armes, all i was left with was a one province, and a bad king. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this cause i pressed the space bar? (you know how in MTW, if you press the space bar you allow a crusade to pass threw)

you've never had a civil war before? wow, you're lucky. in my experience they happen quite commonly. A civil war usually happens when your king dies and a powerful, disloyal general, a disloyal younger prince or many disloyal generals try to seize the throne for themselves. A screen will pop up showing the commander of each side, its troops, its command stars, provinces owned etc. You can either choose to side with the rebels or the loyalists. whichever side you choose becomes the legitimate faction; the other side becomes independent rebels. it can really screw up your plans. keep your genreals loyal is my advice.

what i meant, is that i was trying to creat a civil war in VI, (i've had planty in MTW). but in VI i din't have a chance to chose sides

So did all the provinces turn to rebels ? Sounds a bit like the provinces were unstable and ripe for rebellion (high taxation ?) and with a bunch of disloyal generals in the less stable provinces that would probably spark a massive slump in population loyalty.

5 civil wars i've had. For the scots, picts, mercians, saxons and the welsh. It can be a serious bitch at times

No, i had a civil war. Cause all of the rebel armies were my old armies.

I've been playing a bit more today, and have notices, that i haven't had one rebelion messege, this is kind of anoying, cause i havee to check my provinces for rebellion every year.

ive noticed this same thing. while playing as the Saxons i lost 4 provinces by revolt, but seeing as how it gave me no message to alert me i had no idea untill (7 turns later) i looked at the map and noticed an area of grey. this can be really annoying
