Hello

I am right now playing the English.
I just destroyed the Papacy because I got excommunicated, and I wanted to launch a crusade.

But... as long as there is no Papacy - no Crusades http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
How can I get a WEAK Pope back? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Any hints?

But well, I am getting away from my original topic...

As the true hero of Christianity, I sent 7 Bishops to Egypt.

Right now, 48% are Catholics there.

My Question: 2 seem to change Faith faster than one, but I feel that those 7 work a lot slower than expected...

If this is true, I would send them to Sinai and Palestine in Preparation of Invasion.

BTW: I still have no Longbowmen, but a lot of Feudal Sergeants and Royal Knights. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Its 1136.

Ok first up, you won't get Longbowmen and Billmen until the High Period begins and you get the new style Royal Knights.

As for the Pope, I sugguest you do everything in your power to create a rebellion in the Papal States and Rome. The Pope always seems more likely to come back whent he province is held by rebels and not you.

So basically strip both of those provinces of everything of value and raise taxes and have no garrisson. The Pope will make a comeback sooner or later and he will have no infrastructure left (and he will not be at war with u anymore)

Faith change does seem to happen quickly and therefore religion is a powerful tool in your conquests, its always good to have at least 50% following your religion before you invade to be sure of no uprisings.

I hope this helps.

Oh yeah and welcome to the Org http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

There does seem to be a saturation-point with bishops...more than 3 seems to have no further effect on conversions. I would spread them out a bit more, as you said. Since you're already at 48%, once you invade, you'll zoom past 50%. Build a church as soon as possible/tactically feasible, and produce a home-grown Egyptian bishop (and send him on a tour of the area).

The Emporer's advice re: the Pope is excellent. If he pops up before you have a chance to un-ass Rome & Papal States to rebels, destroy all the buildings & move your troops out anyway: he'll only stay 'at war' with you that 1 year, then be neutral (your bishop there will explain: We were just holding it for you, Mr. Pope) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

BTW, bishops can act as emissaries also, making alliances, etc (increases their stars & presumably their ability to convert).

Thanks for the hint, more than 2-3 bishops do not increase the speed of faith-change. Just tested it.

It is a shame to raze Rome, it has some nice infrastructure. But the Papal States, yeah... I will pull back my troops and wait for the Pope... :>

I hope he is back before I claim total domination, otherwise I will wait for him to launch that damn Crusade... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

BTW: Do you usually start in Early Age?

I have never seen the Golden Horde, I was usually finished before their arrival :-/

Time to play on HARD difficulty?

I will probably play as the Sicilians once I have Viking Invasion. Already ordered it, but they delivered me Medieval again, little mistake... -> but I was promised to get it in the next days http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Before I play the Sicilians, I will raid England of course, hehe...

BTW, I think I can actually get Longbowmen in 1136
Because I bribed the Welsh in the beginning, and thus got three stacks of them. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif)

You can get Longbows with a bribe, but that only gives you 3 units, not exactly enough to win a war.

1200 I think is the year you can train them (and the really cool Chivalric Knights and everything else)

The Mongols Turn up in 1230, and are great fun to go up against, I find that its worth waiting for them even if your near to victory the sight of such a large army swarming into 1 or 2 provinces is awesome.

I always play in the early period and work from there, the reason is that I simply have the time then to build up my castles and get higher tech, before the time comes for total Domination.

I still think that given the build times for some of the castle types the campaign is too short.

Glad I read this. I would always send 6-10 Alims/Bishops to the province (mine or theirs) and I always found it oddly slow. Thanks for that tip

Oh, and thanks to The_Emperor for reminding me of how important religon is. I always forget to do the religon tactic, somehow, right before an important invasion. But being a warlike Turk player or a ecconomic Italian one, can you blame me? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

If you can, don't http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

BTW, 60 and 50 of them are still alive - and in Antioch. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I just decided to strip the governor and let those vets settle down there - as Dukes of Antioch. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
