Ok, I tried using this against Shimazu and it didn't work. I didn't even have the notification if my ninja was successful or not. I tried reinstalling twice with no effect. Then, I managed to kill the Shimazu daimyo and two other provinces turned into ronin. When I tried it on the ronin, i was able to get it to work. Sure, some of my ninjas died in the attempt but at least it works. It didn't say in the manual that this only works on ronin, so what gives?

Also, when I load or save games, the dates are all in ununderstandable ascii, not in alpha-numeric format. It just doesn't display it. What is wrong with this?

The ninjas work against clans as well on my comp, so I'm not sure what's wrong on your end.

Question for both Andrewt and Swazza-kun. Which version of the game are you running, Warlords or Mongol Invasion?

I ask because I've run into the same situation as Andrewt and I'm on the Warlords edition. I've tried re-installing and it didn't help at all. I'll admit that I haven't tried it in a while, but for some reason I couldn't get it to work. I'm wondering if it might be something with the different versions.

Swazza (or anyone else for that matter), since it is working for you, would you also check your game folder to see if the appropriate .mpg's are in your folders and accessible? I would have imagined that the cut-scenes would have been installed to the same folder that the other Ninja and Geisha cut-scenes are located in, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I have warlords edition and I don't have the cutscenes even on a full install. It also doesn't work on the clans. Other event movies play except this one. The only thing I get is the popup window.

Oh yeah, does the armory increase the defence value of your unit, the armor value, or both? I know that armor is for missile and defence is for melee but I don't know how armor works.

I have the Warlord edition and experienced the same problem.I found that if I also dropped my beseiging army on the castle along with my ninja(to open the gate) then my ninja would either open the gate or fail in the attempt. If the ninja failed I could opt to attack or prolong the seige. If I just dropped the ninja on the castle to open the gate and then ended my turn, nothing would happen,I think you must also attack the castle with your army to trigger the ninja's "open gate" mission.

Tito,

Were you ever able to get it to work or are you still having problems? There was a thread about this a few weeks back that never really went anywhere, but from what I gathered in that thread, you didn't have to choose to end the siege with your forces. If the Ninja was successful, then you took the castle.

I'd really like to hear if anyone out there has this working using the Warlords edition. I've got a sneaking suspicion that when they compiled the CD's they missed some files and routines.

Andrew, the armory doesn't increase your defense, only your armor. Your defense is increased as your units gain armor. Armor also does have some small impact in hand to hand combat as well. My guess is that it functions as a modifer to an attackers percentage to hit.

To answer AndrewT's second question:
Also, when I load or save games, the dates are all in ununderstandable ascii, not in alpha-numeric format. It just doesn't display it. What is wrong with this?

I had this problem and I think it was because I had a bad file in the directory with my save games (a cute little virus was putting .eml files in all subdirectories of the game -- nice, huh?) Anyway, make sure the only files in your directory are saves...

Obake it works for me,but only if I also attack the castle with my beseiging army on the same turn that I infiltrate my ninja. If the ninja is successful then there is no actual battle. It's just like auto-resolving a battle, you get a message that the ninja opened the gates and you took the castle with minimal casualties (you might lose a couple of warriors). If the ninja failed you get a message stating that, and then you either choose to attack the castle,auto-resolve the battle,or call off the attack and continue the seige.

I have MI rather than WE and it works perfectly http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif Maybe it is to do with that! Is anyone with MI having this prob?

Zone,

Are you getting any kind of a cut-scene to go with it, or just the dialog box that Tito mentions? Based on the MI preview movie I was anticipating some type of cut scene. Maybe it didn't make it into the final cut of the add-on. I'll leave it for Richie or Target to respond to that one.

I don't get a cut-scene but I didn't think there was one. I just get a memo with a load of heads on it's background saying that my ninja got into the castle and opened the gates allowing for a great and monumentous victory. As if there's any other type of battle http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Probably isn't one Zone. I kept thinking back to when they released those small teaser mpeg's earlier this year. One of them was called "Ninja Breaks Siege" and I just assumed that that cut-scene would have been in the final release, along with a failure version as they do for all of the Ninja actions.

I know that parts of it have been used in the intro movies for the Campaigns of the Unifiers, but that seems to be about it. As long as I'm grumbling, I had also been expecting a full fledged ending for a Mongol victory rather than the same final cut-scene from the Sengoku campaigns with the statue of Khan and some text voice-over. I mean CA did a really nice job on the Japanese victory for the Mongol Campaign.............

(sorry guys, had to get that one out. It's been bugging me since the game first came out)

Maybe they figured playing as Mongol is too easy, so the Mongols don't deserve a good ending. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
