I’m due to finish reading my latest book “Playing tennis with the Moldovans” sometime today. Next up is either “Churchill” by Roy Jenkins or “A history of Britain, volume III” by Simon Schama. Only problem is, I can’t decide which to read next - more so as they cover much the same ground history wise. So I’m taking a straw poll.
Churchill
or
History of Britain vol.3
The Blind King of Bohemia

I would recommend any Bernard Cornwall book whether it be Sharpe or His Grail Quest novels or the one i'm reading at the moment, Weaveworld by Clive Barker.

well, thanks for the replies guys, but...........well, with the greatest respect......
The Blind King of Bohemia - I want to know which of the 2 books I have should I read, not a different recommendation
Samurai-ninja_fusion_of_doom - I already have the books, so I'm past the point of reading reviews before purchasing
The_Emperor - that's nice, but I want to know which of the 2 I have should I read next
maybe I didn't make myself clear. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif Both books are sitting on my shelf and one of them will be next for me to read - but I just can't decide, so I'm doing a straw poll where you, the guild, get to decide. There need not be a reason, I will simply abide by the will of the majority. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

Since neither strike your fancy I would suggest getting another book, like one of the one's suggested above, or try The Gates Of Fire http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Excellent selections The Blind King of Bohemia .
Im sorry your character got killed off at the end of the first book in the Grail series.
I have 60 pages of the second one left to read, then I must decide what to read next.

Gah
Greogoshi, its History of Britain *volume 3* - volume 1 is the one with the Viking stuff in it.
So, with 1 vote out of 8 replies, I hereby declare Churchill the winner Hurrah

Duh I knew that would happen. I'll blame it on my wife. She was bugging me to let her show me some stuff on the internet. You know, the old are you done yet? bit. So I rushed my reply without checking out the books. You'd only gotten one legitimate reply and I felt you deserved better. It turns out I was no help at all either. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Teutonic Knight - too late, I started Churchill today. I can honestly say I have never learnt as much from reading the introduction to a book as I did from this one. I am now an expert on the workings of English parliamentary democracy, due to a glossary of terms provided, ostensibly, for the American reader Do you know what a privvy councilor is? I do now http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

I think it is a Privy Councillor.
I know what it is exactly in denmark: Gehejmeråd or Gehejmekonseilet (notice that konseilet has paralles to the english council). Hence I believe that it is the same thing, namely a member of the highest royal council in the specific nation, am I right so far?
In denmark at least, the period of Gehejmekonseilet was between 1670-1770 roughly, maybe longer in UK since they are a tad more conservative regarding their monarchy etc.
Well, it was a guess at least http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
