Hi
as I posted earlier.. I get black squares over the campaign map, when i start up a new game or when I'm alt-tab to windows, but appaers again randomly when i press end turn button.. The squares dissaperes when i move a unit nearby or drag the screen around a bit in the small map window.. this is a VI problem and I have never had this problem with MTW 1.1. I just bought VI and was really excited about it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif ...

my system specs
amd 800 mhz
128mb ram
tnt2 16mb, old drivers
win 98

I have never experienced any problems with STW, MTW 1.1 (except some lag in very big battles http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif )

Step one is always to update to the latest drivers - I'd try that first and let us know how it goes. Good luck

Did you install DirectX 9 along with VI? If so, then maybe it is a driver problem.

I just checked the VI box. TNT2 is a supported graphics card.

If it is on the campmap which is 30 megs it is probably vid card drivers, 16 mb is low end for MTW and because your problem lies on the campmap screen it is having trouble rendering the 30 meg map with the 16mb's available, you can try updating drivers and turning off all the extars to alleviate some of the draw on the card that might help , if not there may be another solution, by default MTW goes to the 30 meg campmap when playing you can try to force it to choose the smaller 9 meg map by going into campmap/ textures and renamimg the larger mapTGA to something that MTW wont recognize does not matter what. this will force it to choose the smaller 9 meg map which your card will have less trouble rendering.YOU WILL NOT HARM THE MAP SIMPLY BY RENAMIMG IT SO IF IT DOES NOT CHASNGE MUCH JUST NAME THE FILE BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL name

I updated the drivers and for a while I thought the computer would die on me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif .. but after a reinstallment it worked just fine and the squares seems to be gone.. and my computer survived http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
