View Full Version : Tip for those experiencing VI performance issues

I installed VI and was disappointed with laggy battles (the origianl MTW always worked fine for me). This fixed it: I uninstalled the game, plus a bunch of other games that were on my hard drive that I wasn't playing anymore. I ran disk cleanup and disk defragmenter, then I reinstalled MTW and VI. Performance was completely back to normal. If you're having problems with low frame rates, I suggest trying the steps above before worrying about buying new hardware. I was running a 1.5 Ghz PC with 256 MB RAM and an Nvidia GeForce2 MX 400.

The whole experience, however, got me thinking about my graphics card (getting old), so today I went out and bought an ATI All In Wonder 9000 Pro, and now the game really smokes. Suddenly I can run it with all the performance settings maxed out and it's smooth as can be. I was impressed that such a slick card was only $200. (It's loaded with DV and TV tuner features as well--another reason I bought it was for my miniDV camera.)

Thought this might help folks having problems. If the info seems useful to anyone, feel free to copy this post into the apothecary forum. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Regular ScanDisc & DeFrag: certainly words to live by for any game-player. Thanks for your input.

A few thing I have found/ learned while playing....

- close programme that you are not using, ie virus software if you are not online, media players etc.
- More memory can always help with performance and it is so cheap
- If you want to play always do it when your machine is fresh or you have just rebooted. Trying to play after you have played 5 other games first will slow the machine right down.
- reg clean programs/ files that are no longer in use, you can always reload/ install them at a latter date. The more few space on the Hd the better the games run.
- cleanup and disk defragmenter are go to use about once a month if you are installing and delete stuff.....
