I particularly like the Romans getting flying lessons from what appears to be a Seleucid elephant
More significantly for these of you who want MASSIVEarmies

Slight lack of corpses, but earlier screens have had them in. More than one page of new images btw

Romans Storming (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/rometotalwar/screens.html?page=19)
He, just noticed a centurion I guess, scaling a ladder in this pic (the most left ladder) helding above his head: nothing, in the same fashion as the other soldiers their shields...
Hmm, noticing this kind of detail has to tell me I have to look less to those Roman screenies and do more homework I guess http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I checked them on halfdone's site and they look great http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
The romans on the ladders aren't walking through each other when they step up the wals (the do tend to stick there shield in the man above his but http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )
*starts drooling again*

Well I still dont like the idea of elephants but that can be discussed elsewhere http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Has anyone watched the rtw film that came with viking invasion? the legions form a testudo right as they're about to be charged by barbarians...makes no sense at all...
Yeah... but it looks good, and that's all the promotions/marketing people care about. It's one of the most well-known formations of the Roman Legions to those who know very little about history.
In other words... it's an image designed to sell the game, not appease history buffs. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

This game shall be legendary... I mean it shall become a legend... I mean legend, you know... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
Oh, hell, I want that game. NOW http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
On a sidenote, I can barely play VI having seen the RTW images... it looks so darn unpolished, crude and blunt, in comparison with those awesome screenies http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Rome realy will f****** rock.
its not one of the 3 reasons to own a pc this year
(half life 2)
(doom 3)
(R:TW)
it is THE most important reason to own a PC this century
if its bug free then i dont see why rome wont revolutionalise the gaming industry. Its got better graphics on one of ur 10,000 men than a lot of FPS's do.

yep 2000 polygons per unit IIRC.
thats a little more than the carrecters in half life(1) where build of.
but I don't think it will be Completely bug free
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif .
lets just wait and hope for the best.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif impressivethe romans will need more than firey pigs to handle those elephants.

I've seen better...
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
But seriously, these screenies look VERY impressive. Makes me wonder if we can really believe CA about the things they said about system requirements... If they really can pull that off they should receive a knighthood or something http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
But of course screens isn't everything, lets just hope they manage to keep the great gameplay we are all used to in MTW and STW

Notice the city battle......the city must be the size of current mtw maps.....and the hight of the arch...the possibility of flying romans is most interesting.....

im wondering...
what valour will a preatorian gain if he manages to debag an elephant?
they better be f****** expensive otherwise they will dominate.
Leet Eriksson
05-16-2003, 07:07
I agree, they should be expensive AND take a long time to create and friggin useless when firey pigs are unleashed(or them camels http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif).
hmm i think elephants should be avalible to the cathaginions only and should dominate the field easy and sometimes turn on thier own side if they have low morale or valour there valour could mean there inteligance as the higher they are the less likely they are to run into their own side. i also think elephants should be killed easyly with any ballasta and maybe some arrows in the face swords should be useless as you wouldnt try and stab a friggin 20ft elepant now would you that screenshot shows them crowdeing around it which wouldnt happen it pretty silly really.
plus praetorians would of never attacked an elephant you really think the "roman elite" would be wasted on that task i dout it that would be the job of archers.

Carthage feilded forest elephants, the elephant i see in the screenie is not a forest elephant but looks more like an indian elephant.its probably used by parthia or the sleucids(succesor kingdom in persia i think?)
yes i hope the small factions are online playable.
