I don't really know the most effective high period faction, and I never know which one to choose. Could someone give me tips on high period factions they like and why they are good?

Hi there,

it all depends on your playing style. The difficulty rating for each faction on the faction selection screen usually gives an accurate estimation on which factions are easy or hard to play as.
Besides effective is an elusive kind of word, do you mean effective money-wise? Then go Egyptians or Italians. Good starting location? The English/Spanish/Almohads/Egyptians come to mind here. Good military? Most Catholic faction use the same units, but the English longbowmen and billmen are nice to have in your ranks, The Turkish also have some interesting units in High.
So if you want to have an easy campaign, I'd take either English or Egyptians, they have the most advantages, in my opinion.

I think you are talking about MP.

I would say like Brutal it depends on your playing style. How do you like to play ? I like to use tactics as much as possible so I choose factions accordingly, I never play Byzantine. Byzantine is one faction I have won about 1 out of every ten games, every time I tried.

I'd say go for Italy in MP. They have a good mix and you can walk around slow, deciding on what to so. The English are also very good for MP in High, but I would not recommend getting too used to them.

My personal preferences:

-Muslim (challenge)
-Catholic (better troops, usually easier victory)
-Orthodox (no barneys, Russians are good for fun, cav based armies)

My advice is also not to take the MP games too seriously when you lose. It's a part of learning. Florin levels, I would suggest playing with 15k so you can get a feel for how to purchase a complete army without comprimising quality.

Good to hear you did not take it THAT personally. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Normally you need 16 units if possible. Coz most enemies will take 16. I do sometimes take 12 or 14 unit armies. Unfortunately the elite factor in MTW is not all that great IMO. A unit of Templar knights at valor 2 should be able to defeat 3 CMAA at valor 3, provided those are the only units that are engaged, simultaneously.

In the other battle which was Turks (me) vs English (you), I can make the following commenst in a helpful and constructive sense. Since the English had less units than the Turks it would have been helpful to ambush the Turk scout cavalry with 2 knights and 1 orderfott soldier. At one stage the Turk scouts were behind the main force of the English, and inside trees. Two factors which offer a very bad combination for any cavalry. Had these two units been taken out, the English could have reduced the outnumber advatage of the Turks. It was interesting to see 2 units of pavise virtually decimate 4 Ottoman Infantry units. Although reducing the Ottoman Infantry component from 240 men, to about 50, is commendable, the Ottoman Infantry were the lesser quality troops, while behind them were valor 4 Janissary Infantry. the Ottoman Infantry were valor 3. *You can tell the valor of an enemy unit by counting the small flags it carries* therefore I think that by not shooting the high valor Janissary Infantry and not trapping the Turk scouts, the battle turned against the English.

In the second battle, the mistake fo the Byzantine army was not to send any scouts around the many forests on the map. In one of these forests lay 4 units of English Templars at valor 1. If these Templars were discovered before the main clash, it would have been in favor of the Byzantines. This information would also have revealed the English intended to use a hammer and anvil tactic. Holding the Byzantine army with Spears while flanking from one side, in force, to hit the rear.

Hope these are some helpful tips. See you online http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
