Hello,

I previously purchased Medieval: Total War when the game first came out. I tried it out for a couple of days, but then I had attention span problems ( http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif ) and another game caught my interest. I saw that Viking Invasion is out, and I was reading about some thoughts on the expansion on another board, and I decided that I should give M:TW another spin.

My question is this...I am hopelessly lost when it comes to the strategy of this game. Are there any good documents out there that I can read to help me get started in the game and give me a good foundation to build my own strategies from?

respawn noob guide (http://www.respawn.co.uk/modules.php?name=Sections&sop=viewarticle&artid=44)

any more specific questions, ask away, good luck

The clan links on the Home Page have some good stuff. Sorry I don't have any bookmarked, because I'm interested most in the Eqyptians and didn't find anything yet.

The Byzantines and the Britons seem to get a lot of good press coverage.

Welcome Shamrock. I hope your attention span is longer this time. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif If you do some searching around in these forums, I'm sure you will find some good stuff. The Main Hall forum is the place to search.

Vom Kriege (On War) by Carl von Clausewitz is a classic, you must read it.

Also to be found at

That site has a lot of other excellent texts.

Apparently not.

Here's a suggestion: Play the Danes in the Early Period. You start out with one province, no money, few troops and a dearth of strategic options.

(Let's see, do I invade Sweden now or wait a turn ot two and then invade Sweden?)

The conquests within your reach are poor provinces.

Playing the Danes has taught me how trade works, how to build an economy out of wasteland, when to hire mercenaries and when to avoid that, and how to exploit fleeting opportunities.

They're not my favorites. I'd never recommend the Danes for a competitive game against live opponents. But they do make a good trainer civilization.

Check out the Table of Contents (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=3823). There is a section on each of the factions.
