I just lost my first game, and it wasn't even my fault

I had a big sprawling empire, a good Monarch with Lots of heirs, the second youngest brother comes to power leaving one heir, he produces no children (Typical, huh) and when he dies his Brother takes over... and he has a few kids.

Finally he dies of old age (58) when his heir is aged 8... All Royal Blood Generals died off a couple of years back and Now my entire faction has been wiped out

Surely the Replacement Generals should have Royal Blood to Symbalise the continuation fo the Royal line, or Maybe an old heir who has been married for years beforehand (as mine was) should come to the throne with a Son or something.

It's actually a very complex question..

To really ensure you win, you actually have to monitor the fecundity of your kings.. ensuring survival of heirs unde ryour control INCLUDES ensuring a revolution takes place in favour of a general you like in advance of the final king dying without an heir of old age... This means you HAVE to know whether you have an heir at an times.

Ive never done all that myself (my king is currently at risk cos he has only 2 heirs aged 6 and 9, if my king dies now im dead).

The problem is CA hasnt posted the rules ofr succession.. Who wins between the brother of a previous king and the younger son of the current king? When is there a lineage dispute? How about the enemy husband of a royal princess?

The key, my friends, is getting cavalry and archers, so you can wear the vikings and the Saxon huscarls down, then use your other infantry. A good general helps, too. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
