View Full Version : 1000 + Kills on VI
Well it took a couple of weeks but i have now recorded my first 1000 + kills playing VI. My thanks goes to Tinkerbell who played very well on my left flank. I am realy begining to warm to the Viking Era after a slow start. Thanks for the game Fellas. Regards Gladius

Gladius, I've yet to venture online with VI. Are most players playing Viking Era or one of the MTW eras? Just curious.

I would say its 60% MTV 40% viking.

What is the general impression of play with the Viking era troops? It seems like it would be more meat & potatoes type battles - nothing really fancy.
Also, there was much discussion about the weakness of archers in MTW due to armour. Do archers fair better in the Viking Era?

First of all i have no idea what meat and potatoes-battles are.
Archers are better now (since there are no pavaise's available). Battles tend to be a bit quicker since there are no pavaise duels anymore.

I agree with Makkadam VI battles are quicker in all eras. I'm really enjoying it. Another plus is that as there are less players on line you get to play some of the old vets who might think twice about joining my games in the past. I've made alot of new freinds not just with vets.

1k kills is quite easy to come by in VI... very fun battles, and i love the welsh

Well viking era gives a different feeling from MTW.
It is certainly fun, but somehow meat and potato... Many 100 size troops, and at 15K morale is pretty high, so it ends up as a mass slaughter. In some senses, it gives a good viking brawl feeling and battles looks impressive.
I wonder about size inflation in RTW... Obviously, CA keeps playing with size of units, with now much more 100 size guys but also some oddities like a 40 size elite spearmen units (which IMO is not working, spears might need to be 80/100 for rank bonus / not being flaked and hlding space).

Inovative tactics can be used in VI..playing vs. SPQR...who were camping defensivly on a hill (again), did a fun slashing attack with mounted Nobles..and a rather nice ambush with Housecarls..... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
Had my foe beat until our (attacking) center vanished...literally...one moment he was attacking..the next his entire army was dead on the field....that fast.:confused:

I have yet to do VI online... but sounds like it might be worth a look (all those Axemen going at it... sounds like a right rumble)

Got my 1000+ kill (2-1 kill ratio) in MP today.
3 v 3 (about all my system can handle as host)
Was playing vs some Clan Aggony chaps.
My team were all Ronan.

Well in a game earlier today, the host forgot that he had HUGE units on.
Needless to say, 2k+ kills were not to difficult to come bye.....
well as far as ive seen SPQR play afir enough... i remember when cali used to take spain all cav on attack... was always fun trying to hold agianst him in those sweeping 4v4.
and Kyle is another good player, he and I make a good team on some tough maps

Yes SPQR can cirtainly make a lot of online battles fun. had a game with the Uglies couple of days ago that was brilliant apart from my side getting beaten http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Most clans seem to give everyone a go and have fun while doing it.
The Viking era is great and there is definately room for all kinds of fancy tactics with mounted xbow, Welsh bandits hiding in the open, pumped viking raiders eating surprised enemy cav http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif All lots of fun and a number of vets have said that MTW now feels a lot more like STW which is apparantly a good thing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
