View Full Version : Viking Faction
I was wondering why the Viking faction in VI is overloaded with axemen. You have Joms and Huscarles surely one or the other would surfice. I realise that this Faction has very poor Cav, but two sets of axe weilding nutters?????
I would very much like to hear any coments you may have

The Vikings historically were a bunch of axewielding thugs in their day... so don't expect too much in the way of specialist troops

Swords where Expensive They required a specialist (swordsmith) to make, as well as a good amount of time & effort. Iron in N. Europe is low in carbon....adding an addtional step in sword construction. It also takes a bit of time to train an effective swordsman.
The Area is heavily forested...making axes a common place item...and could be constructed by a blacksmith.
Training to use an axe (on foot anyway) in combat was much faster (teaching them to do an overhead swing vs. a side swing).

umm.. sorry to burst some bubbles, but vikings actually preferred swords over axes. Go read your history http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
