we have many maps, and a lot of them are still not played.
we have boring steppes, flat plains and flatinlands as somehow fair maps
what i miss is totomi-shaped maps like totomi (huh), 4th kawansaki, nagashima, seibagahara and so on.
flat maps, with some little bumps in teh centre, and mostly lower on teh edges and corners. all have no or just a few p[ieces of woods.
so?
as i already suggested, we need a laddersystem with no flat maps so all will get used to it. and ofcourse with jsut 1 +or- change of valour and a baseamount of fixed 10k
thats the only way to bring some balance and standarts back in this game.

Yes i really would like to play them maps again mainly tototmi and 4th kamizaska http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif is someone thinknig of makeing them ¬_¬
btw spacecadet your right someone did but the textures were all fucked up on them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
I miss Shogun and all the brilliant art work, movies, atmosphere and feel of Japan.
I miss STW for the better research, autheticity, and class that it has.
MTW is different, I appreciate very much the different climates, and maps.
I play steppe usually only for the sake of other players who like flat maps, not for myself.
Maps with terrain features allows for much more interesting games for me.
Hence I do not miss Totomi in that sense.

I miss it all too.
I'm trying to find the time to convert Totomi to MTW and to make a few similar maps.

i already converted totomi , nagashima, aki, and satsuma..
u can dowload them here at the org or at our clan site... they have been available for quit some time now http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
these are exact copies of the original maps... all map heights are the same... however i retextured them from memory...so there might be a few changes in the "look" ...

totomi shaped maps are easy enough to make, for me i just have to find time to make them while at uni

yes I miss it too, but its past......as for the flat maps i am not at all bothered by the lack of pixels, dont find them boaring at all, maps covered with trees, hills, and loads of pixels dont excite me any more than 'green'..

I was back in Shoggy not too long ago and the guy hosted on Totomi ... I probably know that map, each little detail, better than I know any real surface in the outside world.
Strange.
I miss a lot from Shogun, the music, the general appearance of everything....MTW is good as is VI, but its just not the same in terms of feel.

Totomi was O.K, but I personally found 4th was a little too generous for the defender. So I wouldnt class 4th as a "fair" i.e offering no advantages to either attack or defense.

absolutly YES. I remember great and great battle over 4th of Kawanakajima and Harima...
this maps (and also Totomi, nagashima, WATERLOO ecc..) was worderful, green , simple, with little hill that give advantage but with ALWAYS a way to counter it or a way to conquest it.
Now the maps are so......
laggy....
confused....with all the harvested field that concern my troops http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
the woods are so....caotic... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
But are also bigger.
who don't play the shogun map can't understand the difference http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif Lah, you played Green too much anyway...
Actually I miss maps like Wooded Roads terribly. The terrain wasn't just pixels, how you used it to hide and screen troops was vital. Little rises gave ur guns a great advantage. Creative use of landscape -- that is what I miss.
BUT, for some reason I don't think it translates over to MTW -- I'm not sure why, but all the forest battles in the new version feel different. Perhaps part of it is that the trees are so spread out that they don't visually hide troops from the camera like they used too... This was key that UR opponant not see you. I'd like to experiment with that a bit.

Mitch: the trees and forested areas in MTW/VI are different then STW in that it was easier to maneuver your troops in STW forested areas. I think MTW/VI trees are a little too large and make it very difficult to set up your troops and maneuver them properly. I had stated a long time ago when MTW came out that it would be nice to have an option to turn trees either off or turn their number down, while still keeping the fog of war. Something similar to Sid Meier's Gettysburg would be nice for Rome game or as a patch for VI.
OOPS This part of post is for another thread, I mixed the two together. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Kocmoc: I played a game last night with JerichoPrime defending and he had 7 archer units on a hill. The effectiveness of his archers in routing my guys was very good. I had 4 arm spear, 4 arch, 4 mounted noble and 4 gallows and was routed very quickly. I was also being attacked by both Jeri's and DIV_Hunter's vikings, but my men routed more quickly than would have been possible using just foot troops. Also, once i recovered from the first rout and tried to charge his archers, I never made it near them before routing again without any fight. I just wished I would have saved the replay so I could let you look at it and see if there were any other contributing factors besides the archers.

btw another improtant one is one u can imagine yourself best http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
i really miss the "scrub" tiles ftom STW, the trees felt like trees, but not like forrsts. Asloi loved the atmosphere of STW better in the battles... the landscapes always felt more realistic to me than those of MTW. Right now im looking to use my map skills to try and get the same feel as a lot of those shogun maps. But most of all, i miss the FOG, that really made shogun great, the different fog settings were awesome, fomr the thick stuff whre you couldnt see 2ft in front to the ligh mist that always hung over the field

I really really really miss that fog.
Was fun to hide 1/2 an army just out of enemy's vision and march them into his flank.
I remember bumping into 1/2 of an enemy army a couple of times-- whoops its on
I miss the scenic Yamato...
Miss the fog, most definetly.

How come there's no fog in MTW?
should have fog really.

Is it possible to mod in the Shogun terrain and weather settings into a terrain type?
i think that might be possible, but in shogun the trees were smaller becuase the units were smaller, so that might create an interesting problem. It would be nice though if we could mod these things in, lets see someone look into it, it might pave the way for some great new mods

It was a toss up between wah? ang gah a I never played STW, so I chose wah?
A map with low hills in the centre would be interesting but nothing special really. Some of the maps already in MTW are exteme versions of this with large hill in the centre and at the edges of the map. This makes for fast early moves to gain the high ground especially if the defenders try to take and hold the main hill.
In that game with Elmark and JerichoPrime, Jeri had the advantage of coming down a large hill as a relief force after I had been badly mauled in the forrest but held until help arrived (only to rout later going after an enemy gen with my gen and remining archers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif ). Jeri's archers really did pound the crap out of all the enemy in the valley and still had arrows at the end (I think a couple had been held back for the end game). This is an example of archer power in the Viking era especially if you're Welsh http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
I may have a replay of that game somewhere, have to look through them all http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

I always thought there were better maps than Totomi anyway and who cares about fair or unfair maps? Some of the best games I had were attacking hills.
I miss maps like STW - Tosa far more
