This is mind boggling. I was sitting on a decent treasury , had raided Mierce and won the year before and then the usual taxes coming in. The Vikings invaded Lindissi and I choose to abandon it, province wasn't worth a whole lot and I only had a couple hundred troops there. Vikings of course get the province and 2500 florins get pillaged? The destroyed Abbey would be 1200 I guess, but the rest came from me. Why would I keep all those florins down there? It doesn't make any sense. In the dark ages was it common practice to put all your florins in the least defended province or something? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I'm fine with the Vikings recieving full cash for things destroyed, but i'm finding out who runs my royal treasury and hanging the guy. More seriously though, why is it like this? I can think of any reason for that much to be down there unless its symbolizing me paying them tribute, but i'd have fought and let the men die before paying tribute, florins don't come easily to the Northumbrians.

I guess that thinking of all the florin in terms of physical money may well be the wrong way to go about it. I tend to think of it more in the terms of them stealing resources, people, food, etc. even a disruption in your future income not only from this province but from your whole demoralised population who see you can't protect them.

Even if it wasn't your physical money they stole the cost of replenishing the lost resources and infrastructure may well have had to come out of that huge pile of cash you were sitting on.

Well thats the way I think of it anyway, having played a quick game as the mercians myself I decided that it looked much more fun trashing things with JomsVikings so I did that instead. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

i think monkeyman has a point

for example - the fact one give sup on a province can lead your little friars to give up on you and turn robin hood anyway. hence they rob your tax men in between proivinces and all of a sudden, you're shelling out for claims you didnt know you had.

esp for the women the viking took. im sure the women come into it somewhere.

I may be wrong, but I thought when your lands get raided, you don`t loose money from your treasury.

anyway, wouldn't the abbey alone count for 2000 florins? A couple of other buildings and you're up to 2500 without them touching your treasury.
