in the fall of the HRE (penultimate province, no escape), my general ransomed the HRE for 15k florins. he then fled to his final province where i have him chained up like napoleon on st helena. i wonder what the pope is worth? anybody?

actually, in MTW i raid turkish countires very often - ie: pick the richest, bribe surropunding 6 star generals, invade by land and sea, pillage the nation, sell everything and pocket the cash - i usually get aboiut 5-6k florins easy with this. 2-3 years im up 20k fl - heaps of fun but it isnt environmentally friendly.

in VI its tough to get anything higher than 5k really... my seccond best is 8k then 7k, all in southern england, the 7k also being in wales

My best so far is 9,000, from an Irish province.

I concentrated on the British mainland, until I saw the Irish had actually crossed over from Ulster. I redirected my fleets and am now in the process of raiding the Irish. Those dartmen are pretty deadly, but no match for BESERKEERRS.

I've only played 2 SP campaigns in VI, and my 1st was the one I played with the Vikings... well I still am, just gotten like 40 years into it or so, but its on another 'puter. Anyhow.. here's how to get high value raids,

pick a faction and DON'T raid them,
i usually leave the saxons alone and raid everyone else,
then conquer the islands,
build farms and once i actually hae a positive economy,
THEN start raiding the saxons,
by now they should have some very well developed provinces, especially inland provinces,
12K is then possible

Don't let anyone get too strong.
Leave at least one faction alone to develop before you raid.
Assualt Castles.
Destroy any leftover buildings post raid.
Repeat.

I'm about 40-50 years into my first Viking campaign.
The Irish were left alone for too long and they turned imperialists against the British Isles. LOL

thing is i spent most of my early years raiding the poor picts and northumbrians... mercia always held many troops, so ive avoided them (also, after i took exeter mercia had no coastal provs) The saxons being my allies were also out of the question, as were the scotts...

eventualy about 50 years after the game begun i ventured into wales... had that big 12k hit then i left them for another 10 years, back again with another large hit

unfortunatly when i raided the irish they didnt yield much, even though they are or were my newest victims


ive been playing on expert as well... mostly have landsmen based armies with some zerks/horse/archers thrown in for good measure. i also play with 2-3 raiding parties, who can combine to take larger armies, or sit and hold new lands if i get a good castle

I think the Irish gained status coz I destroyed every other faction economically, and militarily. One more thing to add to my above tips:

-take small quality armies, develop your valor, and keep downward pressure on upkeep.

I have 3 raiding parties at the moment and combine them for major battles. Total upkeep is around 1,300 (-1,300 that is). I gain about 2-3 per turn and stand at approx 100,000 in the bank.
