I agree... if you haven't got border forts they can train up catching guys.

And of course you can go out hunting when someone crosses into your territory.

And lets not forget The Pope... The Ultimate target for your Assassins, where all that trainign and killing really gets put to use (and helps you conquer your Christian Allies without fear of Crusades)

V 2.0 shouldallow more aggressive use of assasins. Personally I believe it's still too easy for them to fail.

I generally train them against , emissaries, reiligious agents, and princesses. If they live after that I send them for important generals, and wish them the best of luck in their mission.

Combination of anti-agent in my own provinces and aggressively killing other faction’s agents in their own lands. Occasionally assassinate other faction generals, but generally stick to defeating them on the battlefield.

Bah, Vikings get such cool names. My assassin who just killed the Saxon King is Duff of Clair. Now whos that going to impress? Hes not gonna end up in any storys, thats for sure. Anyway, I usually just use spys to defend and assassins only for waging war. Don't really worry about the ocasional emmisary/bishop/princesses passing through my lands. Only reason i'd kill them is if another faction pissed me off.

I think Thorbjorn the Priest's blade shall not stay sheathed for long. There are other generals and faction leaders out there. The Priest takes out valor 1-2 generals like nothing. Let's see how far he goes. Yep.

I think Assasins should be better in the normal campaign too, since they can start out at higher valor. Can't wait to try.

I try to make assassins to occupy each of the other factions' central province (the one where new faction leaders appear) and wait for the leader to die, then assassinate the new one. I just repeat this process for each faction and each leader, and with a little luck the whole rest of the map is rebel territory ripe for the taking before long.

The Priest has killed of the entire Saxon faction. Every single leader, and heir (3-4 in all I think). Then I retired him to a Viking province, aprtly becuase I was in total shock that half of the Isles are now rebel. It suits me ok though since I expected, some other faction to profit and grow rich, so I could start raiding again.

Interestingly enough the Saxons re-emerged and now hold about 70% of their previous lands. I would like to send The Priest back in but now he's at valor 6 and I'm a bit reluctant to use him in case he dies.

Using assassins and border forts in cooperation seems to work.

My border fort at Tolouse kept intercepting enemy assassins, much more than any other border fort.

The AI was obviously trying to slip assassins through that province. Some must be surviving.

So I shipped four assassins and a spy into Toulouse and, sure enough, they rounded up the enemy assassins who had survived the forts. One of my assassins gained two valor points in the process.

once trained an assasin, he had 4 stars just starting out. (just from a tavern) i was so surprised i decided to kill the pope. sure enough he succeeded, after that i kept him in Rome and whenever i got excomed, the pope died.

after he finaly died 35 years later after being caught, i conquored Rome and the papal states. didnt have much trouble with the pope that game http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I mostly use Assassains to guard my land from other assassains and spies, but sometimes I send them out to kill Emisarys or to kill off the hordes of Alim's that roam around my land. Everyonce in a while I'll kill an enemy general or an enemy king.

I use mine on those @&%#^@ inquisitors...I swear,They line up in my providences to kill my Generals. The only good thing is they only seem to gun for my 0 star commanders.

I'll try to kill any agent in my lands standing still with my assasins - mainly to gain valor. I also situate a group of them in my most visited provinces, to snatch enemy spies and assasins and gain valor.

Assasins are great for taking out the pope, I usually don't kill any other general with them.

Syria Gives Better Assassins? I thought it gives valor bonuses to those Guys with Bow and Sword who are Trained with the Use of a Grand Mosque (I forget their name)

I dont know I have never built assasins in syria and it doesnt show up in the syria province page, but thats what it says at the shogun cafe site.
