English early/normal/2.0/No mods or switches

I've been at war with France for ages triggered by a failed French maritime attack on my shipping. The war has gone well, combined with my liberal use of Inquisitors I've killed 2 heirs in battle and burned 2 as heritics http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The French king and his last heir are trapped in Champaign(sp?) with 3 soldiers, surrounded by a sea of red and sundered from their last two provinces.

Time to storm the fort as they've provisions for many years. Being a bit tired I click auto resolve as 600 men v 5 is not much of a challenge. Only to see in horror a message saying I've ransomed the King for 10,000 Fl. All my strategems ruined http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

So I went to bed.

Lost heart in my fight v's the French so I'm going for peace now. Though with only two provinces and the Spanish and the Italiens as neighbours both needing to expand I wonder how long the French will last.

So my lesson for today is: If you want something done righ. Do it yourself

Previous lessons include: Don't wear heavy armour in the desert and then stand around for a while. That way leads to snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Good generals are priceless.

LOL, well there you go, always conduct battles against an enemy king yourself and kill him when you capture him.

Still you got some more cash and those Frenchies are probably bankrupt now in their last province, all the more money to spend on troops so you can finish them off properly

I'd look at 10,000 Florins as a nice bonus. In any case you can kill 5 royal knights anytime. Think of it that way, you get 10k for nothing, plus you kill off a faction.

Well you now have all the cash and will have to go in and finish it yourself.

Always remember that auto-resolving will always result in ransoms where possible... (as long as they are accepted)

Anyway you have your 10,000 florins, now you go and attack that last province quickly while The Pope is not looking http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

JD

He decided to be heroic and lead his armies and attacked my besieging forces lead by my King. however even outnumbered 2:1 I defeated his evil scheme. He slepps with the snails know.

That was my fourth French King I'd killed on the battle field. Ahhh happy days, now its a chase the ******* Eygptian navy round the med. Which keeps on interdicting my trade. Stupid fools wont make peace. It's not like we have a common border (I relinquished my North African holdings to consolidate in Europe.) and we do have common enemies http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.

actually, it was probably a good thing that you ransomed him - he still dies, but you got some florins from it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
