I've read other threads about errant AI crusades but I've not read anything quite like this so:

The Italiens form a crusade in Burgandy to take Greece from the Byzantines. It starts by heading NE then N through my provinces nicking those of my men I couldn't get out the way. From Normandy it hops on my ships and travels to Vienna, also mine where I'd parked 2500 men fresh from my own crusade to capture Vienna itself from the excommed HRE.

Stealing 1000 men it then uses my ships to invade Greece where it besieges the garrison. The Byz counter forcing the cowards to retreat back to Vienna. Where they steal another couple of hundred men from my now depleted, vulnerable and isolated province. They then return back to the fray.

Another siege ensues but this time I decide I've had enough so I move the ship stationed by the Greek port. Not stealing any more of my men this time. Or so I thought ...

Again the Byz counter and in a fierce battle the Italiens lose badly, 200 survive. Cut of from escape the Crusaders pray for a miracle and lo They magically teleport back to Vienna. Either that or they hitched a lift on a Byz ship.

Not many troops left to steal from me now. But they grab some more and back they go. Third time lucky cos they manage to conquer the province this time. Which is annoying cos I was hoping for a period of unrest in Italy.

So annoying feature or bug?

Annoying feature.

If you allow a Crusade to pass you territory, it has the right to use your shipping to transit to target province. If you are allied with the Crusading faction, their Crusades have the same right.

Greece to Austria ? You sure about that ? That would be a teleport all right, or maybe they have a medieval airlift capcacity. That would be a bug.

Very sure, I moved my ship out of the sea that covers the Greek port. There were no Italien vessels close enough to get there to replace me. The crusade went from Greece to Vienna in 1 turn and there was a Byz vessel now in that aforementioned sea.

So a Bug then http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

maybe it is something to do with turns calculations and sequence of flags of when action might be taken. i've had a case where an assassin killed a princess who was no longer in the province and he didnt travel to the province she was in either - it was a long distance kill.

with your crusades - i would put it down to historical reality. Fact it - just because a king removes his fleets from a sea he controls doesnt mean the super zealous crusaders will just give up They could go to the local shipping agency or just swim it (zeal 150% prereq)

i think your tale shows just how DETERMINED the crusaders really are HURRAH

you should be proud of your troops, volunteering to die like that. after all they're off your payroll aren't they?

I think Losfalos has the explanation. I believe the AI looks at what's in place at the beginning of the turn; the turn you move out they will still use your ships as if they were still there; the following turn the ships no longer exist for the AI.

On a similar note. Anyone else think the AI route to Crusade target is still buggy...at least for the AI. I wonder about Spanish crusades heading for Edessa that detour through Sweden http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Maybe you mean Greece to Venice. Venice is a coastal province, and armies can move via ships from coastal to coastal. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif Just wondering.

In my current GA with 2.0, I cannot get a crusade to go north from Spain. The only path is to go south through my own territories. Then, when I try to go to the Mid-East, the only way to go is through Constantinople, Trebizond, and through very hostile lands heading south.

However, the bloody English go straight to Tripoli, after siphoning my troops using MY SHIPS??? I've got a crusade trapped in Armenia facing a billion Turks because I couldn't use my own ships to attack Antioch.

Is this a bug?

How large were their crusade?
Maybe you should have just denied them passage in the first place http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
