Favourite VI faction to play in campaign

My comments

Mercians -- Fun. A bit like the HRE, you're big and powerful but surrounded.
Saxons -- Decent Fun. Best lands and good troops, the easiest faction to play in my opinion. Maybe too easy.
Irish -- Boring. You can secure Ireland pretty easily, then it is a long wait before you can leave your island, and are seldom countered.
Northumbrians -- Decent Fun. Quite challenging but not to the point of frustration.
Vikings -- Fun. For all the obvious reasons http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Welsh -- Not much fun. You more or less have to 'blitz' the Mercians or Saxons or you will become too weak pretty fast. Not enough options in my view.
Picts -- Decent Fun. Challenging, but your isolation once again limits your early options.
Scots -- Decent Fun. Trying to keep both ends of your kingdom alive can be a challenge in itself, and if you succeed you are in the unique position of having a starting base on both brittania and ireland.

I like the Scots they have fierce highland warriors and have a unique position. The irish are weak and always attack me but i never lose to them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif then i have enough men and take meath and thats that. Usually i don't fight the picts for a while the i crush them as most of the scottish provinces are poor.

I have played the saxons and they are the easiest


PS. in mp are lvl4 frydmen better than lvl 4 amoured spear?

I love to play the scots also, keep the picts as allies first and build up a naval fleet to keep the vikings of your back(as if they would strike those poor lands but just in case they do).Also keep the Northumbrians as allies cause u cant afford a war with 2 factions.
Then focus all your military to the irish and beat them.

I kind of liked the Welsh. The starting position isn't exactly safe, as you have borders with the Saxons, Mercians, and Northumbrians, but you don't have to rush them. I just waited until two of the larger powers got into a fight and then joined in. It is pretty tough if one of the larger powers decides they'd rather take care of you first though...

The Vikings are certainly fun to play. Raiding is great and your forces are very quickly overwhelmingly strong.

However, I think I liked playing as the Welsh the best. I was VERY aggressive in the beginning and elimated the Saxons by 811. After that I had enough wealth to be able to hang with the Mercians and eventually defeat them and the rest was easy. A very rewarding experience.

i like playing vikings...as with the faction you can employ variety of strategies and the english factions have difficulty countering

the most obvious one is of raiding rich provinces and making off with loot...making the english kingdoms weaker gradually ....leaving them ripe for conquest later on or you can shepheard them carefully by having your ships in all the areas around england to keep an eye and raiding a province once it recovered from your raiding.....

you can also shift to raiding and conquest both by raiding main english counties and start conquering ireland or northern scottish isles

this is why i think vikings are best to play with


also they got awesome infantry but weak calvary and archers but their heavy infantary makes up for it lot

With occupation of Ireland, Man and that nw one you have a decent base, and then just raid, raid, raid. If a monastary is standing for more than a year, then you've grown lax. Vikings... and Picts.

Vikings warmachine is so much better than anyones elses, its great fun play with them.. Picts propably have second best troops; Berserkers, Celts and possibility to train good and cheap cavalry to support. Great fun also..
