View Full Version : Maps of provinces

I have prepared 'block' maps of the provinces for both MTW and VI and would be happy to send them to anybody interested; just send an e-mail request to rff@tesco.net and I'll reply.
Provinces are shown as rectangles, with their correct borders with their neighbours and, where appropriate, sea areas. Also shown are the resources and trade goods available in each province, and which sea the ports enter. The maps come in zipped .bmp format, and each prints on an A4 sheet. The response from the .com MTW forum has been favourable.
I await your commands ...

Thanks a lot Bushface.
I really liked those maps. They are mainly useful for Traders, unfortunately I still am no big trader. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
HINT:
Assume you installed in X:\Medieval
In
X:\Medieval\Textures\campmap\MapTex2.tga
and in
X:\Medieval\Textures\campmap\Vikings\MapTex2.tga
You can see the whole campaign Map of VI and MTW.
If someone is creative enough to extract or find the symbols of the trade goods, he can insert them on this map, too. The only problem is to print it out readable, would be around 4 pages to be as good readable as the box map of Bushface.
But if not, you can use those pics as Wallpapers. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The trade goods icons are located in
X:\Medieval\Textures\campmap\Goods
and
E:\Medieval\Textures\campmap\Vikings\Goods
they're in .bif format, so you need to download the
readbif software from the downloads section if you want to play around with the graphics.

Since I had some spare time on my hands today, I did.
I took the campaignmap, added province borders and added
icons to show tradable goods, resources and valour bonuses
for each province. The map's 4096 pixels wide, so if you
quarter it and print each quarter on a separate piece of paper and then tape them together you should get a pretty good fold-out map.
Heres a sample.

The whole thing can be found here (http://www.helsinki.fi/~leivolem/stuff/medieval_map-1.JPG). It is a bit over two megabytes though, so be warned.
This is a great effort. I could use a print of this on the wall. How do I quarter this?

By using any any good graphics software, such as photoshop or paint shop pro. The map is 4096 x 3072 pixels, so you'll need to divide it into four images of 2048 x 1536 pixels each. Just cut the appropriate sized image from the top left, top right, bottom left and bottom right, paste each onto a new image and print away. I hope you have a good inkjet or a color laser printer to get the best print quality.

Good work,
very impressed
Hoplite,
Thank you very much for the time you spent modifying the map and also with the push in the right direction as to a printout. It takes a little while for an older guy (51) like me to figure these things out. They always say a picture is worth a 1000 words but with the map it becomes clear as to where everything is, instead of clicking on the various provinces.
Your postpic says that you are from Finland. I am from Appleton, Wisconsin, USA about 200 miles north of Chicago if that helps. My wife works in a hospital lab with a Merimaki (sp?) from Finland whose sons have both been called back in the past two years to put in their service time. A coworker with me is first generation American whos father (Sacksjarvi (sp?) served in the Finnish army during WW2. He has many interesting stories.
Anyway, just want to says thanks again.

Hoplite
GREAT WORK. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
I just printed out the whole map, and the best thing was:
My Canon i550 Printer can print banners, I simply told it to print without borders and 2x2... did not even need Photoshop. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
EDIT: Never saw that there were bonuses for anything in Palestine before Bushface and Hoplite did these maps...^^
Thanks Hoplite After I received Bushface's map I started working on a full color version. I stopped after getting yours. I switched the picture to print lanscape and printed mine on 8.5 x 11 photo paper. My wife thinks I'm crazy however.
Hoplite, to gain Moderator status, could you do the same for the Viking Invasion Map, too... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif ?
Woah, if thats the kind of effort you need to put in to be a mod, man I wont even make it to the second rank bah http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif Great work guys, my praises to the ones that really deserve it
Cheers
Yes, a Viking Expansion map http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif

Enjoy.
Thanks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Anyone noticed that there is not much to trade with and several provinces have nothing at all?
@Terry,
You're quite welcome for the maps.
Quite a lot of people emigrated from Finland to
the states during the first half of the last century,
mostly during the first decade and the '40s and '50s.
I understand most of the people who did wound up in the great lakes area or in Vermont, because the climate is similar to what we have here in Finland.
