What dictates the short word to use for a projectile in the unit file? For example, Archers use SBOW which is short for the Shortbow weapon in the projectilestats.txt file.
I was wondering if it was hardcoded or if it could be changed. I read in my Osprey book about Saladin that there were ballistas that shot firepots. To accomplish this, I would either have to create a new projectile (which is virtually impossible without knowing the shortname), or edit the Naptha projectile (which would make Naptha Throwers WAY too powerful by giving them ballista range).

You can edit the projectilestats.txt file.

The short names are hardcoded. You cant make new projectile weapons.

But maybe you can change the napthas so they use ballista and change the stats for naptha. Just give naptha the ballista model(column 20) in projectile stat and see what happens.

That would be a problem in of itself. By doing that, Naptha Throwers would no longer be short range grenade throwers, but rather long range ballista chunkers. Kinda defeats the purpose of having Naptha Throwers in the first place http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

No you just give them the model, you have not given them the ballista stats...thats still up to you.

edit: of course that means that the current napthas will not be the same...bt cant have everything heh
