To All: I just received this notice. I have not had time to check out
the
validity of it yet, but please read and be aware.

Subject: WORST EVER VIRUS (CNN Announced)
PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST !!

A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by
Microsoft as the most destructive ever! This virus was discovered
yesterday afternoon by McAfee and no vaccine has yet been developed.
This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital
information for its functioning are stored. This virus acts in the
following manner:
It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the
title "A Virtual Card for You." As soon as the supposed virtual card
is
opened, the computer freezes so that the user has to reboot.
When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus
destroys Sector Zero,
Thus permanently destroying the hard disk.
Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York,
according to news broadcast by CNN.
This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself. So don't
open any mails with subject: "A Virtual Card for You." As soon as you
get the mail, delete it. Please pass this mail to all of your friends.
Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive
this 25 times than not at all.
Also: Intel announced that a new and very destructive virus was
discovered recently.
If you receive an email called "An Internet Flower For You," do not
open
it.
Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries
(.dll files) from your computer. Your computer will not be able to
boot
up

I do not know how valid these claims are but remember:

An ounce of prevention is worth a bird in the bush

This is a hoax. Disregard it and kindly do not continue to forward it around. To point out the WHY - for those of you non-technical folks - Microsoft and Intel do not discover nor classify viruses. Second - did anyone see this "CNN" coverage?

Lastly - before you fall for this kind of thing - go to www.sarc.com (http://www.sarc.com) and check the highest threats - see what they do, and also peruse the section on hoaxes - which include both virus hoaxes and other spoofs - such as the infamous "Microsoft will pay you if you forward this email" and the "Forward this msg in ICQ or be deleted from the ICQ network!".

I am reminded of the old G.I. Joe slogan, "Now you know - and knowing is half the battle". Very much like something Sun-Tzu would say - eh?

Qapla!

I believe this is a hoax. It has all the trademarks of a hoax:

1. "Send this to everyone in your contact list".
2. "... classified by Microsoft..."

Plus:

3. I do not know of any "Sector Zero".

Well.. I only know that my bank account is in sector zero http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif I hope the virus would mess up that system, making it sector 1,000,000 LOL

Yeah, as stated by Skkzarg-san, it's a hoax, and a rather old one too.

http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/virtual.card.for.you.html

In general, I consider any and every message with "PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST !!" a hoax, a virus itself, or both. This saves me a lot of trouble, as any of these numerous alarms, fake or true, don't make any difference. There's no reason to treat obvious viruses (.EXE files sent by completely unknown people, etc.) any differently regardless of who has or has not warned you about them.

And now, in the interest of fighting rumors, crime and evil, as well as mod power abuse ( http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif), I'll just close this thread.
