D'OH My title was cut off. It was meant to say: Watch 20 Royal Knights turn 200 Armoured Pikemen into Swiss Cheese
Could one of the mods please edit it so it says something like Watch 20 Knights turn 200 Pikemen into Swiss Cheese or whatever fits?

20 High Royal Knights outnumbered 40 to 1 by the Swiss army.
Enemy forces include:
203 Swiss Armoured Pikemen (among them the King)
79 Swiss Halberdiers
36 Pavise Crossbowmen
15 Mounted Crossbowmen
23 Feudal Knights
47 Chivalric Sergeants
and ONLY 17 Peasants

The valour 19 displayed above is the average of all the royal knights in the unit. The general himself is at valour 23, and all the other knights are at least valour 14, though they have fought several battles, so they're probably higher. If you're wondering why the knights have a starting valour of 14, its due mostly to the general's vices and virtues, which apply not only to him, but all the knights in his unit. The following is a summary of Lord Perez's valour bonuses:

+3 Famous Warrior
+3 Pride
+4 Secret Killer
+4 9-star general
-----------------
+14 Total

Unfortunately, the replay doesn't seem to save the death toll and I forgot to take a screenshot at the end of the battle (the above one is the last I took), but I do remember that 440 Swiss were killed, 198 captured, and 7 of my knights remained (valour 20). I did, however, save the replay: Spain vs Swiss (20 Knights vs 819) (http://site.voila.fr/medieval_tw5/Spain_vs_Swiss_20_Knights_vs_819.vrp) (stick it in your SaveGames\Battles directory).

Let's see...I think I saw Lord Perez riding along with Arnold Schwartzenegger, Jean-Claude Van-Damme, the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Achilles, Hector, Ajax, Heracles, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Archangel Michael, Sturm Brightblade, and the Fellowship of the Ring. Yup. That's the only way to explain how they did that much damage.

Uh, yeah, but we are talking about a King's unit of Swiss Armoured Pikemen here. Not just some "low valour spears".
Very good indeed.

Yeah, they are swiss armored pikemen, but they are valor 0 with no upgrades. A peasant unit with the additional 4 valor of a 9-star general and full upgrades is easily the equal of that unit. I had fun with fully upgraded peasants with 9-star generals in my Spanish campaign. Got around 1:1 kill ratios with assorted enemies including FMAA, CMAA, assorted spears and even some knights.

Without the pride vice, that general could be 11-star, though the game only goes up to 9. Very impressive.

Great Job. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The only thing I always regret when seeing such things:

They show us how little reality is in our favorite Game. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

But at least, I think this was EL CID himself

On behalf of the Spanish this idiot routed not the moorish, but the Swiss Soldiers that came to help http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Good job, but think twice if this was REALLY good for your cause... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Man I love it when you get an Uber unit of Knights... I had a king like that who was death incarnate it seems.

He went up against a 3 stack army of rebels, and routed them nicely

Very funny to watch when it happens

have you retrained the unit? or is he gonna be a short stack so's not to lose any stats? and i must give you props for having the 'sac' to invade with only 20 men http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I dont know what went wrong, but when I watched the replay, the Swiss King was laying down the smack on your Knights. The Knights all died (not before killing a bunch of troops, most of which were friendly fire from the archers), but the Swiss King survived. Odd...

Each individual knight has its stats saved, and retraining won't ever lower their stats. The valour displayed will go down after I retrain because that's the average and new men are pretty much always lower valour. I actually have about a 160 royal knights in a neigboring province, so rather than retraining I'll just combine one of them with my general's unit since its faster. Note that once a knight is merged into the general's unit he'll instantly gain 14 valour thanks to the general's vices/virtues and command rating.

Indeed, this battle is worth remembering, even the knights superiority is obvious.
