I'm sure all you guys know when you are concealed when seeing that little tree symbol on top of that unit....
something I did yesterday, I had all my troops concealed in the woods (playing as defense) when comp attacked me... comp troops run all over the map (it was heavy fog too) trying to look for me.... heheh... at some point I try to charge them but they ran off to continue their search w/o knowing me trying to attack them... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
*thought that was funny~

You can sometimes use it to your advantage if you're playing a timed game and you are hoplessly out numbered, you can hide in some woods at the edge of the map and hope they don't find you. Sometimes they do find you but they're usually spread ouy from trying to find you so you can pick them off one unit at a time.

In real heavy fog the AI can be quite stupid.
In one of my campaigns, without the timer,I used Battlefield Ninja to locate the enemy. Then I brought up the rest of my army and set up an ambush just out of enemy sight due to the fog. I then snuck in a couple of archer units and had them fire on the enemy Warrior Monks and No-dachi from out of the fog. The enemy units just milled around unsure of where the arrows were coming from. Most of the enemies best melee troops were decimated before they finally spotted my archers and attacked. MY archers retreated and drew the AI into the ambush.Needless to say I crushed them quickly and it didn't take long for them to rout.Attacking in heavy fog can be very advantageous if you can locate the enemy before he sees you.

GAH! Vanya's Fog tactic is simple: follow the leader until he hits something. Sure, he runs into trees, cliff walls and ocasionaly tries to walk off the edge of a cliff... but the strategy always works. The beauty lies in these 2 truths:
1. The enemy will not expect you to bum-rush them from out of a dense fog. So your lynch mob will stun them and send them crying to their mamas.
2. If you fail to run smack into the enemy, odds are good you will pass him and he wont see you, thus making him search endlessly on 'your side' of the map while you set up camp on 'his side'. Note: this tires his men greatly, while yours are sippin' sake and livin' large. Great defender tactic!

I had a great battle recently involving concealment that made me laugh...I was Mori defending against Shimazu...I had two YS exposed and the Diaymo behind him...to the right YA hidden in the trees as the computer sent his two YS at mine, while firing arrows at my YS...I sent my YA screaming out of the woods and caught the arches...hee hee...I guess I could have flanked the YS but I chose the archers for some reason...those bloody peasants whooped some serious bum-bum!

The YS may have held up against the Peasants. Those poor archers can't. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

I was in a battle during the winter with about two archers and a couple ashiguru and was on defense... I hid behind a hill with thick fog and the AI couldn't find me! One unit at a time would venture over and I'd pluck them to death and move to a new hiding spot, eventually time ran out and I won. Does that count as concealment?

If you don't have the timer on you can still gain some superb victories. If you've hidden well and it's a low honour general attacking you, let them run about, they become exhausted and if you then run your troops round the other side of them and charge, they will rout straight into your line of fresh units and merry slaughter will ensue http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif.

Zone - not sure on that - seems that the AI troops do not suffer from fatigue at all - I believe this was questioned elsewhere but I am too lazy to go find it LOL.

Well I don't know what it was but once I didn't attack soon enough and they routed off the field without laying eyes on me! I'm not one to complain about easy victories but that's just taking the piss http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Is it true that if Ashiguru rout, they won't affect other non-ashiguru units? I've always wondered but haven't seen any noticible difference in battle...

When it comes to routing, Ashigaru are the masters... they even flee faster than samurai on horseback!
And only Elmo flees faster that these masters of flight... especially if Krast is hot on his heels after his head...
