Hi everybodyhttp://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
I need help, i used to play medieval total war (patched 1.1) on a
Pentium2 Computer
512Megs RAM
Acorp 6VIA81p Motherboard
VIA Appollo PRO 133 Chipset
Sound Blaster Live MP3+
Asus GeForce2 32 MB Video Card(Driver was 44.03_win9x_international,
I.E.the latest)
DirectX 8.1
Win98SE Updated Regularly.

I then transferred My 80Gig Hard drive and my Video card in
my new Computer, an
AMD 2200+ CPU
512 Megs Kingston KVR 333MHZ DDR No-ECC RAM
MSI KT4 Ultra with FSB 333 Motherboard
VIA KT400 Chipset
Same video card, same driver.
The sound card is integrated with the MSI Motherboard.
DirectX 8.1
Same O.S. (Win98SE)

After having problems:dizzy: , namely choppy battles and crashing
to a black screen with a dotted green line when i was pressing
the Esc key to save my game,
I transferred the virtual memory to a second 8Gig
hard drive with 1 Gig Free Space available.
The choppy battles problem is solved, no more crashing to a black screen
with a green line anymore.:D
My problems now are that when i start my battles, after 30 seconds i crash
to my desktop. That is if Windows doesn't tell me
that Medieval Total War has performed an illegal operation.
I reinstalled and patched the game many times, have downloaded the eight previous
drivers for my video card and am about to try them one by one with my game.
I am also about to update my MSI mainboard if new drivers for it are
available.

My question is have i forgot anything?
If so, what?http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I love to play with the technical aspect of computers and software but so
far i have been unsuccessful in playing Medieval Total War on my
new computer and i miss Conquering Europe terribly:-D
I also would like to get Viking Invasion but i am not going to buy it
while i am having so many problems with Medieval Total War.:mecry:
My other games work fine, I play Flight Simulator Pro 2002 with the settings to
the max with no problems.

This is my first post, congratulations for a very informative and well
taken care of website.

Welcome Jimbo12ee http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif (I beat Gregoshi) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif I'm not a technical expert so I don't think I can help you. Perhaps you could check the Apothecary or get Gregoshi to post this over there. Perhaps you shall get some answers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Thanks for the warm welcome guys
I have indeed been to the Apothicary in particular and
this website in general since i bought Shogun in 2001,
this is where i got the info about moving my virtual memory
to another drive, a step that has improved my computer considerably
(Thanks Erado San and Kraellin)
Since my post has been moved to the Apothicary (Thank you KukriKhan),
i will now wait for suggestions, hoping to solve
my little techical problem.

Fellow rulers of the world i salute you.

Aw shucks, Lehesu, get the heck up and get us a beer. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The Faithful Sidkicks Union (AFL/CIO) decrees that we FS's simply facilitate the designated Hero's storyline; any other efforts would violate our MOU (memo of understanding) between the FSU and HG (Hero Guild).

Don't wanna start a labor war, do we?

Quote[/b] ]Did you do a full *new* install of the s.o. and the drivers for the new devices? If you simply moved your old W98 installation to the new system, it probably fails as a result of conflicts btw the old hardware configuration and the new system specs.

Thanks alioven for the speedy reply
I did make some corrections when i transferred the disk because windows was looking
for devices that weren't there anymore, and trying to
install the new ones. My other games are playing fine.
Simply reinstalling Medieval Total War wouldn't do?
I did not do a new installation of win98 when i transferred
my disk to the new computer, wouldn't that erase everything?
If i reinstall windows am i going to lose all the games
i have patiently installed?
I am ready to do that if that is required to play MTW again http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

June 04 2003 Update:

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Hi again fellow ultra-pious and benevolent dictators
Concerning my crashing problems with MTW.
I have updated my mainboard, my video card, and reinstalled MTW.
It still crashes. My last option is to reinstall MTW on another,
Pre-Formatted drive, it is drastic but i feel that i have tried
everything, i have been working (obsessively) for the past few days
on this because it is also a great way to learn
about computers and software.
Please tell me if there is something i missed.
Is there another patch coming?

P.S. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif (what are my loyal subjects gonna think of me if i reformat a disk drive???)

Sorry, Jimbo, I replied in the Apothecary again. And your peasants won't think too much, they are all in the Matrix http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif and you are both the Choosen and the Architect there.
