View Full Version : No heirs??
I have a SP campaign game on hard as the spanish, which i have played from early to 1250'ish. Its a good game(i have spain, and everything south of continstanople basicly), but not without challenges, but now i have a problem, my king is 56, and so is the only heir. When the king dies(which he always does now when i end turn) its says i have no heirs, even with the elderly heir. I havent lost an heir in battle or similar, so i fail to see what i could have done better to insure having enough heirs?
Is there any cheat/editor which can add an heir into the game? I really dont want to end this game here ;(
Any help will be much appreciated

Marry a princess (if u still have one) to a general of high loyalty.
typing .unfreeze. will give you an instant heir.

Cool, just what you need when you get a King who can't seem to get it up
(Maybe this cheat code should have been .Viagra. instead of the Iron one?)
Is the marriage required for the .unfreeze. to work?
I only have one savegame, and thats the same turn the king dies, so i dont have time for the marriage http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif [i just lost my autosave because i was stupid enough to play Viking invasion while waiting for a response ]
I tried typing .unfreeze. but it didnt do anything, do i have to do anything special for it to work?

Good Question...
If anyone cares im still stuck http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif As it is i only have the one savegame, where the king dies if i end-turn.
What exactly is the .unfreeze. cheat supposed to do?
Luckily, I have never had this problem...
I guess youll have to try the daughter suggestion above... Sounds like a plan. Ill have to try that myself.
I think unfreeze simply makes you an heir. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
edit: Wahoo I have an edit button Hooray
I really cant marry anyone of, it takes a turn to do so, and that means the king dies http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
Do you have to have anything special selected when typing .unfreeze. ? (ie the king or a princess or something?)
EDIT: Could it be that it isnt working because i already have an heir(but he is 56 too) ?
Ziphnor - I can't help, but what happens if your king dies without heirs? Is it just game over or is there a civil war for succession? If the former, you have my sympathies (and I'll sound be uninstalling VI). If the latter, I've heard some folk say it is not such a big deal and after 10 years of chaos, things get back on track. I'd be interested to hear what you experience.

If you have just the savegame before your king dies, then I'm afraid you're lost hopelessly. The .unfreeze. cheat gives you an heir, but I incorrectly stated instant which is wrong. I checked it out last night and the cheat works such that you will be given the message that a son has been born to your king on the turn after you entered the cheat. Thus, you need to enter the .unfreeze. when your king is 40 and has no male heirs. Better at 39 to make sure.
You could try to stir up a civil war, but I'm afraid that would take more than the single turn you have left...
I guess it doesn't hurt to save your progress more often, until the fixed death bug has been dealt with.
Brutal_DLX: sorry for Ziphnor to hear what you said, but that general information you gave about .unfreeze. at age 39 is very useful to me, thank you.

You're welcome, Simon. Thus far I was able to get by without ever using the cheat, but I tried it out yesterday just to be sure what exact effect it has... I previously thought it would give you an instant 16 year old son...
When you enter the cheat correctly, you'll hear a marriage proposal type of sound, and on the next turn you'll get the son is born message.

.unfreeze. will cause an heir to be born the turn after you enter the cheat code. It will still take sixteen years for him to mature though.
You said that the only heir besides the king is also fifty-six. Is the heir married? If so then perhaps he might have children of his own. End the turn and the kings dies which leaves the kingdom to the brother/uncle who also dies and would allow his children (if any) to inherit. Just speculation.
Several people have asked what happens when you end your turn. Is there a civil war or is it simply game over?
thats great. I don't usually like using cheats, but lately i get pretty nervous when my King approaches 40 and still isn't producing a heir. Thanks for the tip http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Sorry i havent been more specific. Its game-over im afraid, i get a Disaster message and then the game ends. Curiously i never get told that the heir dies old age.
Normally i do save *alot* more, but when i started my vikings game it overwrote my quicksave/autosave, and i had been playing the same game so long that i actually overwrote my spanish campaign games by mistake(ie by force of habit i saved to the same slot), all except the newest one. (And yes, i did feel stupid!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif I have one save that is 2 days old, 2 days of heavy fighting, so obviously id much rather just cheat and go on http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I was thinking that perhaps the old trick of using a generic cheat program to find the age of the king would perhaps help? Otherwise i guess ill just have to wait for a patch, use the .unfreeze. cheat and pray http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
EDIT: I just took a second glance at my other save, it isnt as far back as i suspected. The king and the heir is 43, and i actually had already done most of the long battles at this point. Unfortunatly i still dont have time for an heir to mature, but i do have some available princesses, what would be a safe way of going about ensuring heirs that way?(im not playing the same 16 turns again without knowing it works http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Try using this save and killing off the king so that the heir can inherit. I still think it is likely that he has heirs. Is the heir married?
There is only one heir, and he is also 43(in the old save), so he wont have time to produce offspring either http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I have plenty of princesses though http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
And no, the heir isnt married. Im ashamed to admit it, but i hadnt discovered that you could assist your own king etc in marriage....

Sorry dude, but you're still toast http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
Princesses don't count. All together now say:
Thanks CA http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
BTW: You'll notice that your generals, the enemy generals and kings, etc. ALL die when they hit 56. When your king dies without heir, any generals with royalty can also inherit (if more than 1 there's a civil war). But, since all the generals die at 56 also, they lose their royal status and their successors become non-royal.
This is a BUG. Yes, it has been reported to CA. No. They haven't indicated that they intend to fix it. (At least not until they release TW: Rome, presumably it'll be fixed then). But, as far as anyone is aware, no patch is planned, so get used to it.
Perhaps if a tidal wave of complaints hits them they might do something. Then again, they might not.

Just wanted to add a tip for those of you who don't want to use the instant heir cheat but are nervous about your King in his late 30's without heirs: have him marry one of your own princesses. It will get you a nasty vice if anyone discovers it, but it will also get you heirs. I used it once in the original MTW when my French King lived to be quite old and none of his many kids were married (and they were getting old). I realized that in a few turns he would die, then his brothers or oldest sons would die one after another in rapid succession without time for children to mature. So I found the best general/leader of the sons and married him to his sister. I kept him safely tucked away in the interior with good border forts and assassins. I killed anything that tried to approach and moved him as needed to avoid emissaries...the secret incest vice was never discovered by anyone. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
EDIT: I found a 5 day old save, i had to fight the battle of Constantinople again, but i decided to use this save game, ive already caught up with most of the stuff in my newer saves. My king seems to be producing more heirs now(and he has a few 26-30 years old heirs), so it should be okay, and if not, ill be sure to hold on to that .unfreeze. cheat Thanks for helping everybody.
Old post(i would still like to know this):
But what about marrying princesses to generals? Someone mentioned marrying a princess to a high loyalty general in order to get an heir?
