There seem to be many posts asking for specific books on Byzantium. Usually the questions are military-related.

I have decided to start the Ultimate Byzantine Bibliography, and all are welcome to contribute.

Here is the first selection which I copied and pasted off the following website:

http://www.fiu.edu/~eltonh/warfare/byzantin.html

It was immensely helpful for my honors.

WHy not go to the UWA library instead??

Oh wait, its only for privileged people living in Perth, Western Australia.

I went there last Friday, man the library coding system really confused me.

But I was rewarded with Constantine Porphyrogenitus's De Administrado Imperio - nice chap ain't he?

Would you want him to be your father???

Kataphraktoi, you missed the best book there

Three Byzantine Military Treatises by Dennis George.

It is an excellent primary source, and reveals a great deal about unit numbers, equipment, strategy and tactics from the 6th, 10th and 11th centuries.

Oh yeah, I've just taken it out

The worst thing about byzantine history is the lack of good sources in the exciting periods of byzantine history.
And the worse thing is that some of it is written monks who always seem to have a gripe with something and anything.
