View Full Version : sound issues
Well i will cut to the chase..my sound in Medieval/Vikings goes haywire and i get loud static when i am playing the intro or when in the menus. This doesnt occur in the battles itself. I have played other games and they work fine and i am at a loss to explain it.

Latest drivers for motherboard and video card
Someone may have had a similar problem so i hope for help if possible. The sound problem only occurs in Vikings
Get the latest drivers for that Sound Blaster, and there is also a patch for the drivers. Both are available from creative.com.
Sound Blaster Live 5.1s cause a lot of problems, though they are great cards. I get similar problems on certian games. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
This problem, when encountered on Shogun, is often to do with not using the original audio codecs.
Id update the sound card drivers. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Looks like you have to go here:

to get drivers applicable to XP.
Good luck dlundie & welcome to the.Org http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
edit: Oops, you're in Oz...may need to click through to Asia support.
In case anyone was wondering how i went with the problem, i reinstalled windows 98se and have no problems now.

Great dlundie Always good to hear of a resolution.
Guys, let's follow his example and report back things we've done that fix problems...the better to help the next guy with the same or similar problem.
So dlundie: all your other games also work OK under Win98se?

sounds like you had one of the windows media player codecs that dont work in mtw. by re-installing windows you re-installed the old codec and now it works. it's pretty much the bigger hammer approach, but hey, if it worked, then great :)

Actually all my games work well if not better under 98 se i think xp hogged alot of resources on my computer. I installed MTW on my wifes computer for a laugh and to my horror it worked rather well. I will post the stats.

I was stunned how smooth it ran and disgusted at my gaming computers poor showing, while this old girl actually kept up when i LAN with a friend. I tried it with Windows Me as well on my rig and it ran very well. I guess that as they say no setup is perfect or alike and you have to play around to find your gaming happy place. I think her computer is a freak and i told her so.

one of the bad things about xp is that it is a hog. however, you can turn it into a small pig instead of a hog and can be a good game machine. it has a lot to do with all the background stuff that xp runs. you can turn most of it off and you'll get a much better game machine.
go to the links thread in the apoth and look for the one that has something like 'blkviper.com' in it. that will take you to an excellent site for turning off some of this extraneous junk in xp.
there are other tweaks in the apoth as well. have a gander.
