I heard (pure heresay of course)that it was possible to create and or customise heroes with the new Viking Expansion set. Any comments on whether this is true or not and how to do it if possible would be greately beneficial in satisfying my curiosity. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hi Casca, I have added customized heroes to VI for The Lords upcoming Napoleonic Mod, you can see the screenshots of Napoleon and The Duke Of Wellington in the Nap Mod thread in the dungeon. The process is quite simple if you go to Campmap/Names you will see 2 folders The Heroes Default and Vikings Heroes files read the headings they contain some useful info as to the files structure it starts with the Heroes Name, then date he will appear( I found this to be very random on or around the date shown)then stats for Command,Dread,Piety,Accumen,Loyalty then a vice or virtue then type of hero anything can be added ,General,Inquisitor,Spy,Emissary etc. Then you will see a refrence ID_LIMBO this means the hero will show in a random province belonging to the heroes faction. This can be changed to a specific province if desired as can all the other data listed and lastly you will see usually a -1 this points to the heroes portrait a -1 being random but you can specify a portrait also as you will see with the screenies of Napoleon and Wellington. Thas about it if I can help any further just ask. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well, he altered the file and it didn't work so we'll be needing more help in figuring out what to do. His altering the file made the game more unusable than it already is right now for us (updating the drivers is NOT easy with this computer.)

I had the prescence of mind to make a back-up copy of the file we altered but when I copied the back-up over the file my brother had changed, it didn't work correctly. The game doesn't crash now but no one in the game has a name. It's all blank.

I'll state which file specifically was affected tommorrow but for now I'll settle for someone voluntareering to e-mail me a clean copy of the file so that I can fix this.

If you let me know what changes you made and if it was just to the Heroes Default file, I could give you an Idea as to what might have went wrong. Did you just try to edit an existing Hero or add a new one?.

The file was the default file and we tried to add 2 new heroes. (the file doesn't actually say heroes on it that I can see but I think you are taliking about the same one)

We attempted to use the same format but it doesn't seem to have worked.

Hi there. I had a question that fell into this catagory and didn't want to go making a new post just for my question.

I changed a couple things in my Heroes_Default file, basically just that now the Famous Kings have the portraits that correspond to them and not a random one, so Richard I has Richard the Lionheart's portrait and things like that, but I haven't seen the stats and vices listed next to the Kings in the Famous Kings section so up right. The portrait is correct like i set it, but the special stats and vices attributed to the Famous Kings don't so up. What do I have to do?

Lord of Storms: Can you give us an idea of what a correct addition to the game file would look like?

First you must decide what part of VI you want to add your hero into if the MTW bit then the file is Medieval Total War/Campmap/Names DEFAULT HEROES.
Not the standard names text this folder is not located in the Loc files it stands on its own and contains 2 sub folders DEFAULT HEROES and VIKING HEROES.
A typical entry in this file appears like this.
Napoleon, Bonaparte, 1687, 7, 4, 2, 7, 5, fearsome1, GENERAL, ID_LIMBO, 7 //1st Latin King of Jerusalem
First you enter the name you wish to use between the qoutation marks ( it is wise to cut and paste then fill in your own info to keep the file structure).
Then the date you would like the Hero to show up.
This is a generlization, then the Heros stats.
I.E. Command,Dread, Piety,Accumen,Loyalty in that order.
Then Vice or Virtue i.e. mightywarrior1.
Then the Heroes type General,Spy, Emissary etc.
Then Location ID_LIMBO means the hero will appear randomly in a province owned by the Heros faction.
You can also specify a province for him to appear in also.
Lastly is portrait number -1 being a random portrait.
This can be changed to fit a specific portrait by placing a portrait of your choice in the Misc portrait file that matches your heroes religion and label it with a number that corresponds with the other portrait numbers in that file i.e. if misc07 is the last portrait yours would be misc08 and so on.
For your portrait to match assign it 1 number down from the actual number because they start at -1 so misc 08 would be assigned as 7 in the Heores file.
To finish it up you will need to make an entry for the name to appear correctly. this is added to Loc/Eng/Names.
Scroll down to Heros Forenames and Surnames follow the file structure to add your hero name . which means you will add the name 2 times in Forenames as [Demon] {Demon} and the same for Foremanes [Light] {Light} for example.
Thas should do it not so bad. I hope this helps http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Are we then replacing an existing hero with one that we create? Is there a way to add a completely new hero in addition to those that already exist?

You can overwrite this way or just copy and paste(leaving the original hero stats intact) to keep the file structure so either way http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Yeah its much easiar to copy & paste than to make a new entry. Btw the general appears in & around 20 years after the date
