Are not these forums supposed to be a fair and just place for players to voice their opinions or exchange thoughts in a politically correct and non-demeaning manner?
I truly believe that is the intent.....however, I have seen many instances where the Moderators have stated their own specific personal, or political beliefs. Not covering rules or helping a person out, mind you,.....but rather vocally either supporting or disagreeing adamently on the subject matter of a topic.
Instances such as these not the proper function of a moderator.

IMO opininios the mods should not cease to be also active members of the community. As long as they are able to separate their rules as mod and active patrons I do not see a amjor problem there (also not voicing your opinion would not mean that you do not have one, so you could still be biased at one or the other occasion).
as for political discussions in the Tavern, I have not seen a case yet that a mod was abusing his role while participating in discussions

I would venture to say that the moderators main area of responsibility is to maintain civility in a thread in accordance with the org's rules. I would also point out that they are only human and when pushed as hard as they often are, I can hardly blame them for taking someone to task. I, personally, have never seen an instance of a moderator being unduly harsh. Just my humble opinion. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Hi Hamhock2. I'm happy enough to talk about this. The fact is that as moderators we have at some point being active members of the forums in our own right. Becoming a moderator does not bring mean we have to stop doing this.
As a moderator my job quite simply is to ensure that the orgs rules are followed in my own little patch namely the EH. This means my judgment and interpretation of the rules counts here after debate in most cases with the other mods. That quite simply is all. Outside of it we are bound by the same rules and responsibilities as any other member of the org. If I see something I don't like in another forum I will inform the relevant mod in the same way any other member would. Also if I post something that goes against the rules I will happly abide by the judgment of the relevant mods in doing their job.
Quite simply to place us on a level whereby we are not allowed to express a contraversial opinion or just have a bad day is unfair. I know for I fact I'm only human (sort of). As such I think our roles are best separated for clarity, whereby there is MonkeyMan the mod who will delete all the nasty offensive stuff you post here, greet newcomes and clarify the orgs rules. Then there is the one who does exactly what he wants, says what he thinks and happily expresses and opinion on anything and everything.

(Just want to make sure that it remains in the forefront of the minds of the moderators.)
(Being non-partisian is a part of the job.) (IMHO) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
