However, you have to be a Gamespot member to see this movie. I don't feel like paying to see 58 seconds of footage, and I doubt most of you guys do either. Does anyone know where else this movie could possibly be obtained?

Sir Robin

You don't have to pay, you just have to register.

You also have to go thru some crap with setting up Kontiki Download Manager and you have to have Quicktime to play it.

If I wasn't such an RTW Fanatic I would have told them where they can download their Download Manager. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Still I went thru the rigamarole and have viewed the movie.

It shows more fighting and gives us some of what the cutscenes will look like.

It also displays quite a few new units we have not seen before.

All in all worth the effort to satisfy my RTW addiction... for now. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Anyone else want to be a part of Rome Total War Fanatics Anonymous? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

Forgot to add the link. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Just call me the editing king http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Its actually 1min 16 secs long.

Sir Robin

The three roman faction flags are green/white sword, blue/white wolf's head, and red/black laurel.

They are shown marching together in the opening cutscene.

The units shown in some scenes are definately the original three classes, triarii ect...

Those elephants make me remember an old movie line.

"Its crunch time." http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Oh, I guess you don't have to pay. Haha. In 60-70 hours my download will be complete. Gamespot is the gayest thing imaginable.

Sir Robin
06-07-2003, 23:03
It took about five minutes for mine to download. Ten when you throw in the Kontiki manager.

Something else I noticed. Is the next total war GI Joe Total War? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I swear when the general is leading the three roman factions thru the gate he yells, "Cobra" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

"Cobra Commander goes back in time and takes over the Roman Republic."

"General WhatshisnamemaybeitsDuke joins forces with the Pachyderm Patrol led by the Carthaginian Canibal determined to stop Cobra Commander."

"Will they be able to reach Rome in time?"

"Tune in for the next episode and merchandise commercials of GI Joe: Total War... This time its ridiculous."

That quick? WHen the kontiki screen first came up it said it would take something around 2680 hours to complete http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif
What is this crap?? This is gonna take forever to download like this, and it's only a 15mb file

FesterShinetop
06-08-2003, 00:15
I stopped it. It will probably show up on other sites soon where you can download it normally and do not have to wait 27 minutes for a 15 mb download. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pissed.gif

That's odd... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Maybe I just checked in during a slow server time.

I use a cable connection and it didn't take to long.

I guess I will just be basking in the glory of the new teaser by myself for a while.

oh dear - 27 minutes for 15mb - how lazy we have become lol

Nothing really outstanding in it IMO - pretty much just hte usual from CA - technically nice, kind of interesting as much for the inacuracies as anythign else http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I'm not sure how you can tell the troops are the 3 classes of legionary - although some of the units in one of hte marching scenes did look like Velites with wolfskin head dress and in open order.

I like the part where the catapults knock down a section of wall.

You can see some legionnaires flying from the ladder to the left of it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

That crunch at the end is awesome.

Hah

I reckon you dated yourself a bit with that post GI Joe Total War would be a hilarious mod. How could the Cobra forces be tweaked so they would charge every time, yelling at the top of their lungs, and not hit anything? There was a great piece on McSweeneys.net about a year ago that was billed as the diary of a Cobra recruit. Probably still in their archives. Funny as hell for anyone who grew up in the early '80s.

How about He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Total War next? Better yet: Smurfs Total War Holy cow, that would be entertaining with a good bottle of Scotch http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Almost forgot to add: I have a basic Gamespot membership (or whatever I signed up for) but I refuse to pay anything or go through any more crap to access more commercials for games I want to buy. So, if anyone can get hold of the #2 trailer and post it somewhere accessible, I'd love to see it.

Gamespot is nice and all, and I respect their right to try an make a profit, but I am becoming less interested in what they have to offer. Anybody suggest any good alternatives? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

Frickin awesome. I went to my friend's house and DLed it in like 2 minutes, cos he has a cable modem. Anyway, this is the best RTW movie yet. DAMN "TO THE WALLS" Holy shit, that was off da hizzook. I very nearly beshitted myself several times over in sheer joy while seeing this movie. Wow. GREAT game. The Carthaginian war machine is impressive... I really liked the elephants, but the bright colors of the Carth infantry was stunning. They are gonna be a neat faction, it looks like. But I'm still gonna be the good ol' Greeks... any city state, it doesn't really matter, but preferably Sparta, cos their hoplites are just wicked-looking. FOR ROME

Sounds great but when the hell is this movie going to be posted elsewhere and in higher resolution (only 15megs?).

UPDATE - It figures that before I can finish writing my post some conscientous fellows post mirrors for the file

THANKS GUYS http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

IMPORTANT IF YOU DOWNLOADED THE MOVIE FROM GAMESPOT READ ON

I refuse to download that 3rd party download manager that Gamespot makes you install. Why? Because I'll bet any amount of money that the download manager is a shameless cover for an aggressive spyware application. For those of you looking to maintain your privacy and minimize the influx of spam mail I suggest you avoid this nonsense altogether. And uninstalling the download manager may NOT get rid of the spyware Yes, this is common practise for these types of companies. In order to purge the spyware from your system completely you must either manually look through your registry and folders or use an application like Adaware which does it for you.

For those of you have installed the download manager and don't believe me, download Adaware 6.0 and get the latest update. You'll be amazed to find that download manager and many other stealthy items hiding in your registry and folders and marked as spyware. Run Adaware at least once a day or before you shut down. It's a fantastic application that like Zonealarm Basic, is completely free unless you opt for the more powerful pro version.

Here is a great forum for those stricken with spyware, concerned about spyware or generally curious as to how spyware works.

Great video RTW is shaping up to be the second coming of strategy games. When RTW hits the shelves I predict it will turn green with envy even the most hardcore RTS junkies who dismiss the TW series with a 'I-can't-be-bothered-it's-too-complicated-and-why-can't-it-be-more-like warcraft/command&conquer/starcraft?' wave of the hand.

My only complaints about the new trailer is the intermixing of pre-rendered cinematics with actual in-game battle footage. It's pretty deceptive as many people unfamiliar with the game are going to believe that the battles will look as detailed and realistic as the pre-rendered stuff. On the other hand it's a great marketing ploy to make a highly anticpated product seem more attractive to the easily impressed.

My other complaint is the relatively low resolution of the second trailer. The original 24meg trailer for RTW looked considerable better than this one in full screen mode. If the devs are listening I was wondering if there there is any chance a higher resolution trailer will be made available for those of us with broadband?

I think that the English commands are just quick alpha sound effects added for completeness.

I love StarCraft above life itself, but i would never want RTW to be like it. Why would I want them to change the unique gameplay, an why would I buy two identical games? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Thats been around for a while. It really pissed off the SC fans; I still think they are angry about it, especially the fact that it is Xbox only. It has to be the biggest sellout to MS since Halo. It looks like SC2 is a very long way away.

Can't blame them. Imagine CA and Activision making an announcement next month that Rome: Total War is going to be an X-Box exclusive and there is going to be a PC version but that will take another 1.5 years to complete... Oh.... the horror.... How do you think the community here will react? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Sir Robin

Don't even joke about that. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

It would remind me of what happened to Crimson Skies 2 also.

Its bad enough that bill gates could afford to rent china, dominates the world with http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif windows, but then he has to dump a few billion into the console market to.

Now to let my own paranoia run wild...

Why would they need everything in battle to be doable with a mouse?

Go straight to console, do not pass pc, and do not collect two hundred dollars. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif
