View Full Version : First post, and a problem with M:TW
Hey guys, my first post here. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Anyway, I am having a problem with M:TW. I did some modding to the game but I wanted to try out multiplayer. I had modded to much so I decided to just reinstall. So when I try to reinstall the game it starts installing, then after a few seconds it gives me this error message.
An error occured while transfering this file from
D:\Medieval_TW.exe
to
C:\Program files\TotalWar\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? No one has ever been able to help me with the problem.
Thanks

Greetings Simovek and Welcome to the Org. I am assuming you did a re-install directly over the modded files? if so you might have to uninstall totally and start fresh making sure you delete any left over files befroe re-installing. I hope this helps LOS
No, I made sure to uninstall the game completely, then go in a delete any left overs, then reinstall.

lol. time for a little forum tag. i realized you couldnt answer me in the apoth yet, so i'm re-posting my answer here.
Quote[/b] ]is D: your cd rom drive?
did you uninstall the game first before trying to install again?
was this: C:\Program files\TotalWar\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe where you had the game installed before?
if you uninstalled did you wipe the remaining folders afterwards?
have you wiped down the cd disk with a soft cloth?

i also didnt read the data you posted in here when i responded to this, so ignore the questions that dont apply.
i seem to recall that a couple other folks have run into this same problem and i forget what they did, but you can check out the apothecary and see what you can find there. dont have to be a poster to read the stuff there.
what this sounds like at first glance is a registry problem. i normally tell folks that are having problems with their current install to just install over the top of their current game. mtw does provide a menu item for this when you auto run the cd.
however, since you're already beyond that, if nothing else works, try installing to a different location. this shld bypass any registry entries or at least bypass some and maybe clean some others up.
if that doesnt work, check your cd over very carefully for scratches and smudges; some of these cds with heavy copy protection can be very sensitive to dirt and what not. clean your cd drive also, the read heads. you can sometimes just turn the cd in the tray and get it to work. i even saw that recommended on one game cd troubleshooting guide once and it did help.
just post your results back here until you become a senior member and can post in the apoth and i'll try and look in or someone can shuttle the answers to the apoth.

Is your cd-rom unit working well? Is your game cd clean? Did you searched the sufaces for scratches? This sounds like a input problem. If your cd is damaged you're in a pit of trouble http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Anyways, the cleaner way I've found to make my game normal after modding is reinstalling the patch. I erases everything dirty.
I did mod most .txt files, but no graphics, though.
