Emissarys and generals

Hi
The manual says you can drop an emissary on a disloyal general to sack him - I can't get this to work. Any ideas? Anything I can do apart from disbanding?

It works if you have given him any titles of office. He then loses his titles, but that makes him even more disloyal...

Better to drop a spy on them and have them tried for treason, and possibly executed (if he is found not guilty a few times he may get a loyalty inspiring V&V). Or use an assassin or an inquisitor to hush him up. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

If you waste him retrain the unit.

Another (more humane) approach is to give him governorship of a good province and make sure both he and your king get Good Builder or Magnificent Builder Both of these increase the loyalty of Generals... You could always marry one of your daughters off to him, that often helps a bit.

Not really, it depends on other factors as well.

Anyway there are other options, you can send your disloyal guy off on a crusade that will certainly win... (ie, Pagan rebels in the Steppes) when your kings influence goes up, so does general loyalty.

Troops in a crusade army cannot rebel.

Of course if a crusade fails, your really in for it.

The other thing is to put them in the same stack as your King

I've not used an emissary to strip a title yet.

I tend to use low value units like peasants and militia for governors. When a governor goes disloyal or develops bad vices, I disband the unit.

That may seem inefficient, but why pay upkeep on a bad unit under a bad general?
