Playing the Polish, I received a request from the POPE to marry one of my princess into his "royal family".
Is this possible? Anybody with similar experience?

wait... the pope isn't supposed to have children (most of them did though)

So it's actually not possible http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

There's a lot of dispute over whether "Pope Joan" existed. The mystery can probably never be solved.

That story probably has some truth into it... Its to big to be a rumor.

This is a quirk for having Papacy as playable faction now.

About the rumor of the Popette: it is my favorite :) There exists a marble chair ...

i've not really ventured into the non viking era's, cept to get trounced by much better players online, does playing the pope, wreck the papal decrees and excoms?

Huh? Papacy still isn't playable unless you mod it. They are available in MP only.
As for the Papal princess, shouldn't be possible when running the unmodded game.

I've married a papal princess too (unly in the bugged VI though). I was standing right next to the pope, so maybe it just takes a turn for the popes children to be deleted by the game.

For you guys who don't know, legend has it that before a guy can became pope he must sit on a marble chair wich actually has a hole in the seat. Then a "lucky" priest is assingned to feel up all the "material" to see if it is all "in order".... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Boy those guys are far from imparcial, they take as granted the the "catholic historians" are credible in denying the popess but dish out all who say otherwise. The first guys to put it on paper were catholic monks. The fact that that pope/popess doesn't show up on the records don't prove squat. Of course all traces would be erased. And after all that wasn't all that hard to do since it must have been a very short period (1 year max).

The fact that there aren't many written records only show the power of the church are the fear people had of facing it. Consider some historical sources has "respectable" and others doubtfull without much looking into it is plain dishonest. You guys just watch closely the language used. It is the scholar equivalent to "it's a lie, it's a lie, it's a lie, i won't hear you, i won't hear you...baah bahh bahh". This of course while covering the eyes...

"Popess"? Since "Pope" derives from "Papa", which means "Father", shouldn't a female Pope be a "Mome"?

While Pope Joan was an apocryphal story, the infamous "pornacracy" of the 10th cenutry was not.
Story has it that the Pope at that time was a conneisiur of women - no one was safe - pilgrimesses, nuns, female dovotees. Females use to avoid the Vatican lest St Peter's successor would commit a sin and violate them. The Vatican was one big whorehouse.

two words - Papal infallabity
