Hi all,

I am in a dilemma and I would like your input on this one.
Though I have started a mad “Ancient Total War” that starts at the attack of the Persian Empire on the Hellenic colonies in Asia Minor till the first 0AD many call for a Hellenic total war.

The Ancient is the VI conversion of the Persian Wars and it covers more or less the same period as KDs Patrician mod. At the moment I am not so sure where KD stands with his mod, or if there is a VI port for it. So Ancient Total War is relevant.

Hellenic Total War will cover the wars amongst the Hellenic city states. It will start at about 1000BC. This is deep in the Dark ages. New city states are forming. Argos is a prominent Dorian state. Sparta has is formed in its well known warlike state. Athens is at it beginnings still week but its star is rising. In Biotia the 7 gated city of Thiva is growing fast. The North is mostly in a barbarous like form but rich and it has potential if it can fend of the Barbarian of the north or the Eastern threats. New colonies are made in Asia minor. The task; Simple … you have 500BC years to grow and bring the city states under your power.

So please vote … which one you would like most to be made first.

(P.S. The latter needs a new map)
Sorry about AD-BC mix ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

there were no minoans in 1000ad or even 1000bc , crete was already mycenean by then. The idea of hellenic city states sound really cool though...

I am note sure about that????
Have to check BUT please vote cause by Sunday ... the result will be considered final and the mod will start

Thanks for the point rasoforos. The Minoans were distroid by 1400BC ... and by 1200 the Mikineans faced the same end So the story goes with out them.

Thanks ... got my date mixed up ...

I voted hellenic ... obviously ... because I think it will be a more epic campaign. Do you think at including heroes?

Maybe I'm showing a lack of historical knowledge, but it seems to me that the Hellanic mod fits better with the TW faction scheme. So the Hellanic mod gets my vote. However, let me also note that I don't play mods (so far).

IMO we don't know enough about Dark Age Greece to make a plausible game of it - teh Persian wars, OTOH, are the subject of much more romance and history http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hi all,

It seems that the verdict is for the Hellenic Total War, but I will let it run till Sunday to make it sure.

Now, many (me included http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif) think that Persian wars and what followed it is one of the most important part of the Hellenic history. The period after the Persian war determined the final ruler of the Hellenes. So if I can fined a way to bring the Persians in the Hellenic Total War in a similar way that the Golden Horde appears then we will have them in and the game will take you till the death of Philip (father of Alexander). This period introduces siege weapons heavy cavalry (my beloved Hypicon) and Sariza armed Hoplites.

Any way I have a good map of the Balkans and Asia Minor to make the map of the game. Still gathering details for the areas the cities occupied. I will start modding on the map of England replacing the existing factions with the Hellenic ones and their units.

Well we will see. Keep on voting http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Gregoshi,
You should take a look at least at them. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Any how I hope this reaches its destined end and none is disappointed. Old player like you are needed for the moders. Your opinion carries a special weight.

Running Backwards,
You militaristic brut http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif you will not be talking this way when you ‘ll see that dirty villages you call city burning http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I think this does it ... It is the Hellenic Total War that goes first.

Map design has just finised and it is ready for parsing. Some dark age units are ready for the game along with a cuple of Hoplites. All in testing ...

Thanks

Well I answer to this poll after trying this excellent mod; it will deserve a different name than Hellenic total war when others nations will be involved; I mean Persians (with phenician and egyptian navies), and the shock between roman legions and phalanxes.
The inclusion of greeks colonies in italy could also be great.
I thought at a time to Peloponesian wars, but with Lydian and others inclusion, it would be too restrictive.
Longue vie to the Hellenic wars

Hi Duncan,

Though this poll was meant as a targeting method to what people would like to have. By now the Hellenic total war is ready is in v.1.0 and you can download it.

It focuses on the wars between the Greek city states and the there wars with the eastern empires like the Lydians. Unfortunately we can't have user defined events so we can have Persians appearing at a specific time frame. So the Period of Persian Wars, Peloponnesian War and The ascend of Macedon will came as the first add-on.

The third add-on will cover the Hellenistic Era, Gallatan Horde and The Roman Conquest.

The map is that of the South Balkan Peninsula (The northern part is near Danube with a portion of Anatolia. The reason is that I had to split the map in many provinces but they were all concentrated in a very small area.

Later Add-ons will include The down of the Greeks, The Destruction of Thera and The Dorian Descent that will take you back in time.

The reason the mod is called Hellenic Total War is simple it concentrates on the Southern Balkans and the wars of the city states for dominance. Many Empires came to be and were lost in this land. Most of them were very decisive on the future we live in.

Hmmmm ....

OK this forumas are for the MTW series.
In that contex people are to talk about historical facts and reference, Periods, weapons, ... etc but not to make comments on behavioral and verbal or other attacks on other people, races or caltures.

On this aspect there are many reasons to hate / dislike people for some or any reason so please try to refrain from comments against others no matter what or who might those others be.

Barbarians in our age do exist ... we see them in our cities and all around us. They might be drested in rugs but also in expencive suits. They might be drunk or sober and they might be punks or low enforcment officers.

In Greek animals are calld ZOA this comes from the work ZOI that means life. In that we can derive that humans are also ZOA (animals). BUT humans are different in Greek human is ANTHROPOS which if you brack it down it roughly means the one that can workd speach simpler the one that can speak. This is what differenciate us from them but offen it is much simler to go to the animal in us.

[B}Lets not have that in here please[/B]

Hello Komminos,

After trying your mod for few hours I must add several things:
First, the install proceeding is all right, not easy for a complete beginner in computer matters, but accessible ; and the mod works perfectly. But to attain more people an easier install way voud be maybe possible? Anyhow I did it and it works.
Second you did a very nice job. I really enjoy it, you keep the interesting aspects of TW series with something new ad mostover nearly accurate.
Third thanks for your quick answer, as a former Reader of Thucydide I really appreciate your investment in such an interesting program of add-ons. Be sure I will be attentive on these forums
Fourth, the satellite map looks great.
Fifth, do you think the game is winnable at classical age (global domination in a very limited time)?
Sixth the name is effectively well chosen.
Thanks for this mod.

Actualy this was era was cut short ... at about 550BC the Persians overwelmed the Lydians and that is the start of a new cycle. Basicaly I would not start from Classical but Proclassical. In the future You will only need to grab the Greek world to achive dominance.

Wait till the Trojan Wars is ready (this weekend) just 10 turns 12 areas loads of armies
